Required Qualifications

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, independently prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.

Reporting to the Beautification/Pesticide Application Supervisor, the Grounds Beautification Intern performs flower bed installation and maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide applications, bed maintenance and mulching. Additionally, as needed, performs routine grounds maintenance and snow removal.

Required Qualifications

• Experience such as general grounds maintenance and/or landscape installation and maintenance.
• Must have valid drivers license.
• Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or more with assistance; maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; and work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
• Ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.

Southwest of the U.S. (i.e., New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado) with travel approximately 3-4 months a year. There is the potential to visit other program sites located in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, as needed. Successful applicants will be adaptable, detail-oriented, enthusiastic, comfortable working on public and private property and interacting with landowners to ensure continued working relationships, and comfortable working harmoniously with others at night.

Required Qualifications

- M.S. in Botany, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Sciences, Natural Resources, Forestry, Environmental Science or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in the management and performance of field sampling and natural resource survey techniques.
- Experience navigating over rough terrain using topography maps, GPS and compass and must be willing to work in adverse weather and field conditions, standing water, deep mud and with biting insects.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds of equipment.
- Demonstrated expertise in analysis of ultrasonic acoustics specifically related to bats and squirrels, Kaleidoscope pro, BCID, Analook, Sonobat software packages.
- Ability to perform basic statistical analysis of field data and report findings of research through effective communication.
- Ability to work in extreme heat and extreme cold associated with high desert environments and the ability to hike up to 20 miles a day.
- Previous experience working and camping in the backcountry.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be willing to receive rabies vaccinations.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Global Positioning Systems and ESRI based GIS software.
- Previous natural resource field experience including experience handling bats, squirrels, with emphasis on federally threatened or endangered species.
- Experience with operation, collection, and maintenance of acoustic data, experience supervising, managing, and training field crews in remote locations.
