Job Duties

Monitors department’s communications system. Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and assistance by dispatching personnel via radio, telephone, or other methods of communication. Obtains information from callers to determine appropriate response methods and responds to message requests, including secure networks, regarding confidential information. Operates the Virginia Crime Information Network (VCIN) teletype equipment to address all messages and inquiries. Assist walk-ins to the department—Monitors safety devices. Provide administrative support to the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. The candidate should be skilled in keyboarding. Demonstrate the ability to operate voice communications equipment. The candidate must be able to interpret and apply policies and procedures. Must have the ability to obtain a certification to operate NCIC, VCIN, and DMV equipment and databases. Have the ability to organize and prioritize tasks and assignments and work independently. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to respond quickly in emergencies. Possess a high school diploma or equivalency. Must be willing to accept varied shift assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified through VA State Police to operate NCIC, VCIN, and DMV equipment/databases.

About the Position:

VSU is seeking qualified applications for the Fall 2023 &

in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Virginia State University (VSU), a public, comprehensive 1890 Land
Grant institution and historically black college/university,
invites applications for Faculty positions in multiple Academic
Degree and Certificate Programs.

VSU offers 36 undergraduate degree programs, 17 graduate degree
programs, 2 doctoral degree programs and 8 certificate programs in
its six Academic Colleges: College of Agriculture, Reginald F.
Lewis College of Business, College of Education, College of
Engineering and Technology, College of Humanities and Social
Sciences and the College of Natural and Health Sciences.

Teach up to 18 credit hours (in-person, online via synchronous or
asynchronous modalities) per academic semester and provide regular

This teaching position is non-tenure track and is limited to

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Entry:

Master’s degree in teaching field from an accredited university
with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the teaching field
required;

Proficiency to teach courses in the following areas: art &
design, history, philosophy, languages, literature, mass
communications, military science, music, political science,
sociology, social work and criminal justice;

Must demonstrate effective and engaging teaching skills;

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD from an accredited university, preferred.

Prior teaching experience in a higher education environment is
