The Role:

This People and Culture leader, along with the SVP of People and Culture, assists the Authority leadership team in managing and overseeing the Human Resources activities and functions. They will provide proactive, strategic HR support and perspectives to management and staff.

This human resource professional will lead and direct the daily functions of the human resources department, including talent acquisition, training and development, ambassador relations, ambassador engagement, and culture/work environment.

What You’ll Do:

• Administers and executes human resource programs, such as, but not limited to, new hire orientation, onboarding, recognition, and events
• Responsible for enforcement of Authority policies and standards through written material, training, and a consistent administration
• Assists managers with the performance management process, including the development of goals and coaching strategies
• Serves as a resource for ambassadors, supervisors, and managers on policy and procedures
• Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and alignment with recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance

What We’re Looking For
• Human resources management experience in a leadership role
• A HR Generalist with broad knowledge in multiple human resource disciplines including recruitment, training, ambassador, performance management and labor relations, organizational management
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Energetic self-starter, with strong leadership skills, work ethic, and the highest level of integrity
• Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Position Description

Seasonal Firefighters assist in wildland and structural fire suppression, fire prevention and education, medical and hazardous materials emergencies, pre-suppression, hazardous fuels management, wildland fire aviation, equipment, and facility maintenance, and forestry and fire law enforcement activities. Under close supervision, positions allocated to this class serve as crewmembers on an engine crew and receive training in performing all or part of the duties outlined in the series concept.

The Nevada Division of Forestry Fire program is an effective statewide Initial attack force comprised of Type 3, 4, and 6 Engines, Water Tenders, Chief Officers and Support Staff. The state of Nevada is split into three regions, Western, Northern and Southern, with regional headquarters in Carson City, Elko, and Las Vegas. As a Seasonal Firefighter, you are responsible for safe and effective fire response and suppression. You will be required to work effectively with all members of the program to maintain a high-functioning team environment. We encourage career growth in leadership, self-motivation, fire behavior knowledge and resource. To maintain NWCG qualifications, NDF fire resources are made available nationally to provide training and support of large fires around the country. When not committed to emergency incidents, Seasonal Firefighters will gain knowledge and skills relating to natural resource management, through training, hazard fuel reduction, Fireline rehabilitation and landscape restoration. We’re looking for motivated, self-starting, team players with an appetite for crew comradery and adventure!

Incumbents are required to pass a work capacity test which consists of a three (3) mile walk, carrying forty-five (45) pounds in less than forty-five (45) minutes.

These positions are scheduled to start in April 2023.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of construction, logging, ranching, forestry, or natural resource conservation experience which included the use of various power and hand tools.
