Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, the Digital Strategy Section draws attention to the many... facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling.

The Digital Strategy Section is also responsible for the build, management and maintenance of global website properties, as well as providing support to Country and Regional (field) Offices to maximise their use of global web platforms in their communications activities. This role is instrumental in ensuring our large and globally distributed user base has access to web platforms, and is supported to use these platforms to publish high quality content that is critical to their communications work.

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
• Outdated content on our websites can confuse and mislead the site visitor and undermine the public’s trust in UNICEF as the leading organization for children. Some older content can rank higher in search engine results than the up-to-date information, taking away the site traffic from newer and more relevant content. A high volume of outdated information also makes it more difficult to find content that is fresh and relevant. In addition to averting reputation risks, archiving or deleting outdated content helps our platform and websites to be cost-effective and optimally functional
• The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) in the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy is responsible for ensuring that content created in UNICEF’s Web Content Management System (Web CMS) is up to date and that the platform is configured to retire content that has reached the end of its lifespan. To this end, UNICEF is seeking to work with an external expert on web content standards to audit websites administered and managed in the UNICEF Web CMS and to develop and implement the content lifecycle standards.
• The selected candidate will work closely with the Digital Governance and Platform and Web Editorial teams to review the websites managed on Drupal platform to identify and report on the status of their content and functionalities and develop the standards based on the findings. S/he also works to reach out to stakeholders to determine the appropriate content lifespan for various web content types available on the platform.

Scope of Work:

A group of websites from each site category on the UNICEF platform, selected by the Digital Governance and Platform and Web Editorial teams, will be audited. All websites managed on UNICEF Drupal platform will be subject to compliance to the web content lifecycle standards to be developed.

The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) in the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy is responsible for ensuring that content created in UNICEF’s Web Content Management System (Web CMS) is up to date and that the platform is configured to retire content that has reached the end of its lifespan. To this end, UNICEF is seeking to work with an external expert on web content standards to audit websites administered and managed in the UNICEF Web CMS and to develop and implement the content lifecycle standards.

The selected candidate will work closely with the Digital Governance and Platform and Web Editorial teams to review the websites managed on Drupal platform to identify and report on the status of their content and functionalities and develop the standards based on the findings. S/he also works to reach out to stakeholders to determine the appropriate content lifespan for various web content types available on the platform.

A group of websites from each site category on the UNICEF platform, selected by the Digital Governance and Platform and Web Editorial teams, will be audited. All websites managed on UNICEF Drupal platform will be subject to compliance to the web content lifecycle standards to be developed.

Sites To Be Audited (10 To 12 Sites)
• 1 Global site
• 2 Regional Office sites
• 4 – 5 Country Office sites
• 1 – 2 subsites
• 1 – 2 microsites

• Audits the websites administered on UNICEF’s web Content Management System
• Knows the health of unicef.org websites and understands content and functionality trends within the UNICEF web ecosystem
• Works with the stakeholders to help them come to a consensus about the content lifespan for each content category that they are responsible for
• Documents a well-defined set of content lifespan/lifecycle standards for various content categories on UNICEF Drupal web platform
• Helps design a mechanism for tracking compliance of the standards

The Digital Governance and Platform and Web Editorial teams have insights to determine the content lifespan.

UNICEF Offices that manage and administer their websites on UNICEF Drupal web platform understand and abide by the standard.
