What You'll Contribute
• Sallie Mae’s Internal Auditing department works to promote an effective control environment through risk-based audits, internal controls testing, pre-implementation reviews, special projects, and risk and control education. To promote a strong risk and control environment, IA applies data analytics to its audits and reviews. Providing data solutions requires defining the business problem/risk statement, gathering the business intelligence/data, and making informed conclusion through the use analytical tools and methodologies available.

Under the supervision of the DA manager, the Data Analyst’s responsibilities include:
• Identify and develop new analytics (descriptive, diagnostic and prescriptive) to support risk and control conclusions on an audit basis
• Maintain existing data analytics projects and develop new projects that support the execution and administration of Internal Audit’s mission and annual plan
• Proactively identify repeatable data analysis that can be used by the audit team in making informed decision; Specifically support planning and scoping of audits and risk assessment
• Provide support and guidance to encourage and facilitate widespread use of analytics within the audit team

What You'll Contribute
We are looking for a financial services audit manager to join Sallie Mae’s Internal Audit team. This is an important role both for Sallie Mae and the Internal Audit team specifically. Sallie Mae is exploring new services and solutions to help families confidently navigate to, through, and immediately after college. This individual will partner with business leaders to lead audits across the business. In addition, Internal Audit is undergoing a transformation as we expand and mature the team, and this leader will be instrumental in that process. Overall, this is a unique opportunity to join the leading private student loan provider and a growing, people-focused Internal Audit team.
The Internal Audit Manager reports to the Senior Director or Director II, Internal Audit and has exposure and interaction with senior management in key lines of business. They oversee audits for individual business units and/or support functions, and direct pre-implementation and post implementation reviews.
As the Internal Audit Manager, you will have 5+ years of audit experience, most recently within financial services or providing audit services to those companies. You will also have 2-3 years of supervisory experience and a strong interest in coaching and developing others. Summary Of Duties
Responsible for performing qualitative and quantitative analysis on the consumer loan portfolio in support of modeling and reporting. Develop statistical models with regressions and machine learning methodology such as gradient booting and neural network on various business areas for consumer loan portfolios. Analyze and provide guidance to management on the appropriate modeling methodology to employ for different business needs and data structures. Design, and implement the model testing and monitoring activities. Ensure model documentation meets internal and regulatory standards. Participate in all stages of model development including model methodology and framework design, data preparation, segmentation, model development, testing, and calibration. Evaluate the business and financial impact of new models. Develop forward looking views of loss expectations of credit card portfolio.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or other quantitative field of study like physics and engineering and three (3) years of experience as a Credit Risk Manager, Decision Science Professional Intern, Teaching and Research Assistant, or related occupations in the financial industry related to data analysis and/or statistical modeling. Master’s degree in the above stated fields of study and one (1) year of experience in the above stated occupations. Also requires at least 1 year of experience in the following:
• Working in a financial services environment including products and services;
• Performing quantitative analysis or building statistical models using SAS, Python, SQL, or R coding language;
• Understanding of at least one kind of consumer loan product such as student loan, credit card, or other products; and
• Presenting quantitative data via PowerPoint, Excel, and Word to business partners or executives.
