What You'll Contribute
• Responsible for providing quality customer service and accurate information about depositor accounts, programs, policies and processes. Answer inquiries from customer, potential customers, financial and institutions, business partners, internal customers and others. Process telephone requests for account information and application processing and communicate results to the customer. Maintain knowledge of comparable and competitor products. Respond to email and written inquiries. Responsible for the maintenance of existing accounts. What You'll Contribute
• Sallie Mae’s Internal Auditing department works to promote an effective control environment through risk-based audits, internal controls testing, pre-implementation reviews, special projects, and risk and control education. To promote a strong risk and control environment, IA applies data analytics to its audits and reviews. Providing data solutions requires defining the business problem/risk statement, gathering the business intelligence/data, and making informed conclusion through the use analytical tools and methodologies available.

Under the supervision of the DA manager, the Data Analyst’s responsibilities include:
• Identify and develop new analytics (descriptive, diagnostic and prescriptive) to support risk and control conclusions on an audit basis
• Maintain existing data analytics projects and develop new projects that support the execution and administration of Internal Audit’s mission and annual plan
• Proactively identify repeatable data analysis that can be used by the audit team in making informed decision; Specifically support planning and scoping of audits and risk assessment
• Provide support and guidance to encourage and facilitate widespread use of analytics within the audit team
• Build relationships with business partners across the organization for data gathering, data initiative and data governance purposes
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal & external auditors, Sallie Mae management, and other key stakeholders, as necessary, to meet above objectives
• With the support of the Audit Manager or Audit leadership, engage in special projects, critical process reviews, and investigations as necessary

What You'll Do
• Assists with developing, executing and maintaining the Data Analytics framework and its activities:
• Demonstrates practical understanding of data analysis concepts and basic programming techniques. Provides technical expertise on data extraction, data cleansing, data mining and analysis.
• Develops new BI solutions and maintain existing solutions to support data extraction (for end users).
• Maintains and updates the existing data analytics projects – refresh the data and generate new reports to support continuous auditing.
• Develops new trainings and conducts existing trainings on a regular basis to encourage and facilitate widespread use of analytics within the audit team.
• Demonstrates ability to understand complex and diverse technology infrastructure and identify sources and tools needed to deliver analysis and reports.
• Performs data validation to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the data extracted, and maintain the integrity of the extracted data if it is stored on IA’s shared drive.
• Performs internal audits as part of a team.
• Conducts interviews and inquiries with auditees to understand business processes, technology and data to support audit scope and objectives.
• Provides expertise in data analytics for audit and risk management.
• In the planning phase of an audit, develops analysis to provide useful data insights (i.e. trends, patterns, outliers) to support the development of the scope and objectives and to identify risks and control weaknesses.
• In the execution phase, develops complex data analysis with the support of DA manager. Also, provides continual guidance to the staff/senior auditors (i.e. understand the data, perform 100% population testing and/or perform robust statistical sampling).
• Holds discussions with the audit manager and DA manager to brainstorm on the complex analysis, develop the logic and script/code, discuss limitations and any potential issues.
• Provides quality service to stakeholders, which includes obtaining and demonstrating a strong understanding of the business process and the associated data.
• Communicates effectively with the audit team at the audit, department and leadership level to present test results and potential findings
• Serves as the resident expert and liaison to all others serving in DA function under DA manager supervision
• Maintains knowledge of best practices by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, performing benchmarking, maintaining networks and participating in professional organizations.
• Collaborates with various DA teams (internal) to ensure integrity of data.
• Assists in the execution of special projects, critical process reviews, and investigations as necessary.
