About the Product & Technology Department:

The Product & Technology team advocates for our partners and consumers to design and implement outstanding customer journeys. We're at the forefront of consumer genetics, and our work impacts millions of people every year. You'd join a highly productive, distributed team of about 60 engineers, product managers, and designers (and growing quickly). Most of the product and design team members are based in our HQ in NYC, while the engineering team works remotely.

General Position Summary:

As a member of our Engineering team, you will work with our engineering teams, product teams and business stakeholders to support our applications and services, closely track monitoring metrics, surface and triage issues and support our internal data needs. We are looking for a collaborative engineer with experience in systems monitoring, issue tracking and triage, ticket management and coding expertise. Our stack is mostly in Ruby on Rails, with infrastructure in AWS.

This position is also a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, fast-paced environment and work with cross-functional teams to support, build, and monitor outstanding products. Our portfolio of products:

Specific Job Functions:

The Technical Support Engineer role should be able to successfully manage multiple responsibilities and act as a leader, both internally and externally. She/he will be responsible for these main areas:
• Serving as our support champion for production issues, being the first line of support and working with our engineering teams to identify and solve issues.
• Take responsibility for triaging issues and assigning them to the correct teams in a timely manner using our issue tracking system
• Monitor alert and metrics channels for issues, notifying the correct members of our teams when issues or potential issues are identified.
• Play a key role in working with our engineering teams to improve our applications and infrastructure providing data points and technical support.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the engineering, product and customer support teams as well as key business stakeholders
• Take part in improving our metrics for issue/bug triage and turnaround times
• Learn our codebase and be able to troubleshoot and identify issues in code
• Make service your mission as you work to address issues found in ultimately putting the patient first.

The Responsibilities of This Position Include:

Desired Skills and Experience:

Background
• 1-2+ years working professionally in a Support Engineer role
• Experience working across business units with engineers, product managers, project managers, etc.
• Proven experience of implementing effective and efficient support processes
• Healthcare experience preferred but not required

Professional Skills
• Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, Cloudwatch, etc.)
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Programming experience preferred, Ruby on Rails a big plus
• Mysql experience preferred
• Excitement for the prospect of collaborating with a diverse team to tackle meaningful problems each and every day
• Sympathy for the complexity of being an engineer and desire to help make solving production issues as smooth as possible
