• Performs closely structured supervision and observation concerning compliance with conditions of probation, including directing and counseling the probationer and conducting field contacts (home, work, treatment facilities, community restitution or jail) as a member of a team.
• Obtains, assembles, secures, keeps and files a complete identification record concerning the person on probation including arrest reports, contact notes regarding compliance with terms of probation and case plan to prepare written reports for the court.
• Builds relationships to encourage compliance with the case plan including conditions of probation through frequent telephone contacts, work site contacts, day, and evening home contacts.
• Directs and/or refers probationers to community resources, treatments or other interventions based on assessments, behaviors and conditions of probation.
• Participates in case review conferences to determine if change in level of supervision is warranted.
• Performs searches, breathalyzers/urinalysis collection, and makes a documented effort to locate absconders.
• Serves warrants, makes arrests, and brings persons before the court who are on probation including defaulting probationers facing revocation. Probation officers have the authority of peace officers in the performance of his or her duties.
• Appears and testifies in court.
• Monitors payment of restitution and probation fees and ensures victims' notification rights are provided according to statutory requirements.
• In confrontational situations with probationers or others, appropriately and effectively responds and uses defensive tactics and techniques, as learned at the Defensive Tactics Safety Training Academy, when necessary.
• Performs and demonstrates through proficiency testing, competency in, and an understanding of physical and verbal defensive tactics and techniques, including the following, or their comparable alternatives: 1) Forcefully raise arms above head (straight arm wristlock and takedown), 2) Perform minor aerobic activity, 3) Stand for up to 2 hours at a time, 4) Engage in balanced movements, 5) Throw hand strikes (fist strikes and palm heel strikes), 6) Use impact weapons (ability to swing arms in a striking action with a baton that weighs 16 ounces), 7) Kick at targets below 24" (front snap kicks), 8) Perform controlled falls and return to standing position unassisted (break falls and recovery), 9) Complete hand strikes and kick drills at partial speed, 10) Sustain exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray, 11) Engage in fighting techniques while on the ground, 12) Be able to bend knees lower center and touch the ground with one hand (break fall recovery and baton closing technique), 13) Be able to bend knees to a 45 degree angle (all ground techniques).
• Investigates cases referred to the officer and makes a written report to the court.

• Be a United States citizen or legal resident.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Have a bachelor's degree with a preference in the behavioral sciences or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Be a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years.

Law Enforcement Support setting:
Based upon telephone calls, visitor inquiries and field officer queries or reports, initiates, investigates, interviews affected individuals and maintains and prepares police reports, case, incident or situation reports, logs and files;
Tracks, logs and reviews field officer reports, traffic accident reports and like materials for compliance with departmental and related standards, procedures, policies and deadlines, and reports adverse findings to appropriate supervisory/command staff;
Receives and processes subpoenas;
Using department vehicles, transports administrative and investigative materials, to include evidentiary materials (while preserving chain of custody) between the Sheriff's department facilities and activities;
Coordinates with property and evidence section for pick-up and disposition of large items from assigned unit or facility;
Receives, issues and distributes telecommunication devices for the deaf (TDD).

Corrections Support setting:
Searches the U.S. mail for contraband per corrections bureau policies, and notifies supervisors of materials found;
Distributes indigent inmate mail supplies, e.g., stationary, envelopes, postage;
Records, deposits and notifies inmates of money orders received via the U.S. mail system;
Coordinates the inmate phone system, to include managing and reviewing inmate phone call recording discs, monitoring inmate phone calls;
Provide recordings of telephone conversations to authorized requesting parties;
Updates and maintains security sensitive files;
Performs light clerical duties, including minor typing, filing and distributing office work;
Performs security clearances on public/official visitors for corrections facility access;
Researches files and other criminal justice information and compiles information for review/action by staff;
Generates reports and/or supportive information for reports/articles;
Coordinates and distributes policy and procedure updates;
Manage and reviews automated inmate phone system disks;
Assists other staff in coordinating internal events, e.g., awards and recognition ceremonies, holiday observances, etc.;
Monitors jail or court video surveillance systems, operates electronically controlled doors, elevators, gate systems, intercoms and emergency systems in the detention center;
Allows staff, authorized visitors and volunteers entry, exit and internal movements within the detention center complex;
Monitors construction, contractor or outside work crew activities for safety and security of facility;
May be assigned to minimum security facility as work furlough monitor, to include conducting telephone checks on inmates to confirm locations when on work furlough or other authorized periods of absence from the facility;
May conduct field checks to confirm inmate attendance at work, treatment or education per sentencing minute entry, with employers, schools, counselors, therapists or others.

This classification transcribes recorded or written law enforcement officer reports into department-approved formats or onto required forms using computer-based resources to meet departmental and legal standards for content, accuracy and timeliness. It is distinguished from other clerical, administrative and Public Safety-related technicians and specialists by its primary focus on the accurate transcribing of legally sufficient reports and documentation.

Preference given to current Pima County employees.

This division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. As such, employees are required to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

Transcribes recorded or written law enforcement reports into department-approved formats, using computer-based resources;
Proofreads, edits and corrects transcribed materials by comparison with recordings and written reports;
Contacts originators of recorded/written reports to clarify or correct statements which cannot be resolved by critical review of original source materials;
Prints and distributes transcribed reports to appropriately qualified individuals/agencies;
Distributes transcribed reports via secured electronic means (facsimile; computer-to-computer, etc.) to appropriately qualified individuals/agencies;
Maintains manual and computer-based activity logs;
Accesses departmental restricted-use databases and communications systems to locate essential information;
Maintains required physical security and confidentiality of information encountered or created during the course of assigned duties;
Maintains physical security of assigned work areas by determining allowable access by others, to include maintenance of sign-in/-out registers;
Performs operator-level servicing and maintenance of assigned recording/dictation equipment, computer-related equipment (e.g., printers, copiers, etc.) and other office equipment;
May be required to perform transcription duties in languages other than English.

BUILD A MEANINGFUL AND SATISFYING CARRER IN PIMA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT AND JUVENILE COURT, AN ORGANIZATION THAT CARES ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY.
Perform Spanish to English and English to Spanish interpretation and translation for judicial proceedings and in related work situations in Superior Court, and Juvenile Court.
Only ACICP Tier 3 or Tier 4 Interpreters would be considered, or interpreters with a valid legal interpreter certification in other sate who qualify for reciprocity in the state of Arizona.
• Interprets in consecutive and simultaneous modes English/Spanish and Spanish/English in hearings and proceedings for Superior and Juvenile Court, and other work situations as necessary.
• Conducts sight translations of court documents.
• Performs oral interpretation of the speech of judges, court officers and witnesses.
• Translates from Spanish to English and English to Spanish those court orders, court notices, petitions, legal documents, or materials deemed essential to court proceedings.
• Provides Spanish/English and English/Spanish interpretation between probation officers and their clients and clients' families.
• Verifies and corrects transcription and translation of written materials per court order.
• Translates and interprets other materials as directed for court divisions and departments.
• May assist in the training of on-call and new staff interpreters.
• A Bachelor’s Degree and two years of continuous professional experience interpreting and translation experience in Spanish/English and English/Spanish in a municipal, general jurisdiction, or United States District Court. The two years’ work experience may include experience in legal, medical, escort, and/or conference interpreting for a government official; OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position, as approved by Human Resources.

Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced educational degree from a recognized interpretation and translation program.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
• Candidates must have a Tier 3 or Tier 4 credential from the Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program (ACICP).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typically performs duties in a courtroom and in an office environment and may lift materials and/or equipment 20 lbs or less. Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time, travel to various court room assignments. Must be able to listen to multiple speakers and comprehend the meaning of their speech to speak effectively and meaningfully to the users of interpreter services.
