About these internship opportunities:

Outdoor Research is looking to build diversity in the outdoor industry by offering 5 underrepresented students the opportunity to intern within one of our ten departments for 6 weeks. Interns will have the opportunity to work on projects that build their skillset, learn cross functional dynamics and building connections within the outdoor industry along with fellow interns. You’ll have the opportunity to present your final project to the Executive Team.

Which departments are you interested in learning more about?
• Direct to Consumer - The e-commerce team combines technology, user experience, analytics, merchandising and digital marketing to develop a direct relationship with our customers.
• Marketing OR – Attracting new customers in our established OR outdoor apparel line (building on current momentum in the outdoor industry)
• Materials – Selecting the appropriate materials for the needed garment, balancing many variables in the process – breathability, waterproofness, durability, availability, sustainability and price, etc.
• Product Design – Designing future styles based on market analysis and consumer needs
• Sales – Wholesale or OR Pro - Working with our various sales representatives, distributors and specialty retailers (ski shops, REI, outdoor stores, etc.) across the country / globe to align order fulfillment and provide top class service.
• Supply Chain- Ensure that the right amount of product is available to the customer at the right place and the right time (Forecasting customer demand, executing procurement plan, monitoring production, coordinating delivery from factories to fulfillment centers)

• Attending college and over the age of 18 years of age.

Anticipated Internship Dates: June 20 – July 28

Located in Seattle, interns would need to be in-house at least 3 days per week dependent on the department.

About this role

The primary role of the Dealer Services Specialist is to maintain and update Outdoor Research’s Commercial Wholesale order book, handle inquiries about products, orders, and returns in a timely, accurate and professional manner, resolve discrepancies in orders and billing, assist in data analysis and provide suggestions accordingly, and attend dealer meetings as necessary

The Dealer Services Specialist is a proactive collaborator who is passionate about providing excellent service and driving success through our retailers. They are a strong internal advocate for our dealer accounts and have exceptional problem-solving skills to help improve overall customer experience.

Every individual who contacts the Outdoor Research Dealer Services department should leave with a positive impression and experience.

Duties
• Respond in a timely, professional, and positive manner to all e-mail, fax, phone, etc. inquiries regarding Outdoor Research orders and products. This will include but is not limited to new purchase orders, product availability inquiries, product information, shipping status, warranty/returns, etc.
• Ensure accuracy of orders, returns, customer accounts, and all other related transactions.
• Work with finance, planning, marketing, sales, and shipping/receiving departments to set up and manage accounts, provide necessary reporting, and communicate issues that affect shipment of orders, customer/dealer relationships, and revenue.
• Manage all account details, assuring all information is up to date and accurate; this includes, but is not limited to, adding new store/ship to locations as needed, adding and/or removing contacts as notified and/or updating all affected departments of new Vendor Guide requirements.
• Support Sales Manager and territory Sales Reps through regular maintenance of accounts as well as proactive and regular review of open orders and exception reports. If applicable. notify rep accordingly and resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Regularly review processes and procedures used for account maintenance and offer advice in development of new strategies where appropriate, keeping in mind customer experience and efficient operations as key priorities.
• Process returns/warranties per department procedures, using proper cancellation codes to categorize reason for return correctly. Proactively communicate persistent quality control issues within the department and to other departments, as necessary.
• Prioritize daily tasks and projects to accomplish job duties with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, outside sales reps, buyers, and all other contacts with which you interact.
• Gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of all Outdoor Research products through participation in on-site and off-site product training events and clinics.

About this role

We are looking for an organized, disciplined, and energetic leader who will run the operations of the Outdoor Research retail store(s) in both Seattle and Des Moines.

What you will do
• Greet and thank customers in a helpful, positive, manner throughout the purchasing/decision process to provide them with a memorable visit.
• Inspire the customers through education of our product while inspiring your team by leading by example.
• Drive sales staff to attain monthly/yearly sales plans while also being responsible for staying within monthly/yearly operating expense budget.
• Create seasonal inventory stocking plans in line with seasonal ‘open to buy’ in partnership with Retail Store Inventory Specialist.
• Manage assistant store managers at each store location while being responsible for overall sales associate store coverage.
• Manage relationship and purchasing duties with 3rd party vendors stocked in OR’s retail stores
• Train new and existing team on customer service techniques, sales techniques, and product, keeping everyone up to date on new product and innovations so our customers each have expert, enthusiastic and up to date advice from the team.
• Attend final seasonal CTC meetings and ensure seasonal key product and marketing stories are represented in store.
• Collaborate with in-house marketing & sales teams to execute store layout and rotating merchandising plans.
• Innovate ideas of how to constantly improve our retail process in an ever-changing market keeping OR competitive and on the edge of new concepts.
• Collaborate with community groups to host store events with Marketing and Sales teams.

What you should bring to the table?
• Five plus years of experience in retail sales
• Retail management experience
• Merchandise planning familiarity
• Active or previous participation in one or more of OR core sports preferred
• Knowledge of and/or intermediate to advanced experience with various outdoor gear and equipment, Outdoor Research products preferable.
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and point of sale systems
• College degree or equivalent
