The Assistant or Associate Professor in commercial and local vegetable food crop production systems with 75% extension and 25% research efforts will serve as State Extension Specialist and work cooperatively with extension educators, area specialists, State specialists, growers, producers, farmers markets, and industry stakeholders towards development, delivery, and evaluation of commercial and local vegetable food crop production systems. They will work to evaluate and improve the success and effectiveness of their Extension program. The candidate will conduct applied research and build a nationally recognized program focused on commercial and local vegetable food crop production systems that are sustainable, economically viable, and socially responsible. They will develop successful externally funded extension and research program. They will publish peer-reviewed manuscripts including Extension publications, scientific journal articles, and trade or industry articles. The candidate will be expected to provide service to the department, college, and university via extension and research related committees and activities. The candidate will be expected to conduct extension programming and applied field research at one or multiple locations which may include the OSU Student Farm in Stillwater, OK, The Botanic Garden at OSU in Stillwater, OK, the OSU Cimarron Valley Research Station in Perkins, OK, the OSU Mingo Valley Research Station in Bixby, OK, or on-farm work in collaboration with producers and growers across the State.

The candidate will be expected to recruit, mentor, and serve as major advisor and graduate committee chair to graduate students in the Horticulture MS graduate program and/or the Crop Science or Environmental Science interdisciplinary PhD programs. They will contribute to graduate education through service on graduate student committees and they will be expected to periodically serve on Department, Division, and/or University committees. The candidate will work cooperatively with OSU faculty and staff and serve as a member of the OSU food crop production systems team. Regular engagement in professional development opportunities and activities will be expected as well as completion of all required Departmental, Division, and/or University level required annual trainings.

The Assistant or Associate Professor and State Extension Specialist in commercial and local vegetable food crop production systems with 75% extension and 25% research applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Sciences, or a closely related field such as Soil Science or Environmental Science with emphasis or experience in horticultural food crop production, by the time of hire. Candidates that have, or will have earned, the PhD degree by spring or summer 2023 are encouraged to apply.

Preferred qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include prior experience in extension, research, or production of horticultural food crops; experience serving as a PI or co-PI of extramural, competitive grant projects, evidence of extension, research, and scholarly output; communication and leadership skills; and interpersonal skills. The ability to use traditional and innovative techniques for extension program delivery is expected. The individual should possess the ability to effectively lead a team as well as contribute as a team member.

of OSU Agriculture. An earned doctorate is required and candidates
for the position must qualify for the rank of tenured professor in

They also will have a distinguished record in teaching, research

university. Administrative experience must include budgeting,

Job Summary:
1. Assist management with maintenance of six tick colonies. Ensure adequate number of quality ticks in each life stage for each species reared are available. Maintain inventory records for the number of ticks reared, dispersed to researchers, and discarded due to age or poor quality.
2. Daily collection of materials from research animals. Care and handling of animals housed in laboratory spaces.
3. Assist management with preparation of individual tick orders, invoicing, packaging, and shipping of materials to customers.
4. Maintenance of laboratory, animal holding facilities, and grounds to meet all state, federal, and animal care and use requirements.
5. Process incoming requests for ticks and sort ticks for pathogen testing.
6. Clean and disinfect equipment daily. Observation of animals for overall health daily.
7. Attention to detail a must. Report any abnormalities to management immediately. Must be able to think independently to solve issues associated with all aspects of tick rearing after initial training.

training in economic theory and quantitative techniques; and a demonstrated

oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact productively
with interdisciplinary faculty, students, and the public are essential. Previous teaching, extension, and research
experience in natural resource and environmental economics are desirable.
