The communications manager reports to Oceana's director of communications and is a member of the global marketing and communications team. The communications manager is responsible for leading public relations efforts to advance Oceana's campaigns. In addition to securing quality news coverage about the campaigns, the communications manager assists with all forms of communication and outreach related to targeted audiences (e.g., media, elected officials, and supporters), including reports, brochures, and fact sheets.

The communications manager also works closely with Oceana's in-house multimedia team and outside consultants to create materials for the organization's target audiences. This position is also responsible for providing writing and editing support to the campaigns as needed, including drafting opinion pieces, press materials and other documents.

Additionally, the communications manager works with the campaign teams, communications staff, and Oceana's marketing department to develop social media strategies that expand the visibility of Oceana's U.S. campaigns in new and existing social media channels.

Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires quick decision-making under pressure and strong multi-tasking skills.

Limited domestic travel may be required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
• Serve as a communications lead for Oceana's campaigns
• Develop and execute communications strategies for Oceana's campaigns, managing initiatives through research, planning, implementation and evaluation
• Cultivate and manage successful relationships with key journalists, partners, vendors and other stakeholders
• Secure placements for Oceana's campaigns in top local, regional, and national media outlets, including tracking press coverage and meeting specific goals
• Orchestrate, manage, and execute successful media tours and strategic events for Oceana's campaigns
• Conceptualize, develop, and manage production of high-level strategic materials for Oceana's campaigns, ranging from communications plans and press releases to reports and advertising campaigns
• Assist in the development, design and production of reports and other materials, working closely with the campaign teams, communications staff and outside vendors
• Manage outside vendor agreements for Oceana's campaigns with the legal department
• Provide writing and editing support for Oceana's campaigns as needed
• Find opportunities to spread Oceana's campaign messages through traditional and online media sources such as letters-to-the-editor, op-eds, and blog posts. Efforts include drafting, editing, and placing opinion pieces
• Work with Oceana's marketing team to develop a stronger voice for the campaigns across social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
• Secure speaking engagements for Oceana's campaign experts
• Assist with other U.S. communications activities as needed

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field
• At least five years of public relations experience, with expertise in media relations, including pitching and writing for the media

Skills and Knowledge:
• Strong journalistic writing skills with excellent knowledge and use of the Associated Press Stylebook guidelines
• Superb writing, editing and verbal communication skills adaptable to a variety of audiences
• Superior attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to synthesize complicated scientific jargon quickly and accurately for lay audiences

• Ensure Oceana's onboarding program is working effectively. Define program objectives. Review and improve the onboarding process to ensure objectives are being met. Coordinate and/or conduct New Employee Orientation.
• Monitor and recommend enhancements to Oceana's performance management process. Coach, counsel, and assist managers with objectives and any resulting disputes, staffing situations, and performance improvement plans as requested.
• Monitor HR's use of systems to achieve organizational goals and efficiency. Work with peers within HR, IT, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to define requirements for system improvements or enhancements. Partner with IT on improvements.
• Manage and report HR analytics to provide insight to inform decision making. This will include using the data to design efficient processes and solutions.

Job Requirements Education and Experience
• A bachelor's degree is required, and a minimum of 10 years progressive human resources experience, which will include demonstrating expertise across the key areas of the function.

The Field Director will lead a remote team of field representatives that work in states and regions to generate grassroots support to help win Oceana campaigns, including preventing the expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling and reducing plastic pollution. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain executive calendar, and screen emails and calls to help set priorities. Responsible for scheduling and coordinating all the Vice President's appointments, meetings (internal/external), and calls.
• Support priority setting and help structure the Vice President's time to provide focus on the most important and urgent items. Keep track of the Vice President's to-do list and screen correspondence (as appropriate) to help set priorities and make tentative commitments.
• Work with the Vice President to prepare agendas and materials for all meetings. Ensure meeting space and technology (as needed) run smoothly.
• Book all elements of the Vice President's travel needs (airfare, lodging, ground transportation, etc.) and prepare meticulous itineraries.
• Anticipate Vice President's needs for meetings, events, and travel by maintaining organized systems for tracking upcoming deadlines and activities. Prepare regular "look-aheads" for review with the Vice President of upcoming travel and meeting schedule in order to ensure necessary briefings, presentation materials, and other preparations are in place.
• Prepare and submit the Vice President's weekly timesheets and monthly expense reports.
• Oversee the department's timesheets, expenses, payables, and contracts. Ensure timely satisfaction of invoices and other documents.
• Assist the Vice President with budget tracking.
• Handle research assignments for the Vice President and assist with the development of presentations (as needed).
• Volunteer to serve on office teams, steering committees and other work groups to show collaborative spirit and willingness to support organization-wide employee activities.
• Perform additional duties as needed and/or assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and work experience:
• Bachelor's degree and 3 years' experience as an executive assistant; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Skills and knowledge:

The Field Director oversees the entire U.S. field team, ensuring that it delivers grassroots and grasstops engagement to support Oceana's campaigns. This position reports to the Vice President of the USA. The Field Director develops and executes campaign strategy for the field team in coordination with the campaign directors, integrates field staff within campaign teams, and manages and supports field staff to meet campaign goals and objectives. Field staff manage a varied and high-volume workload; this position requires initiative and an ability to work on individual deadlines tasks while also engaging fully as part of a dynamic and high-performing team. Travel and in-person work is required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
• Direct and manage a remote team of field representatives on both the East and West Coast, and coordinate with the campaign directors, advocates, communications professionals, scientists, lawyers, and other departments to achieve campaign goals.
• Lead the achievement of annual and shorter-term goals across multiple issue areas, including Oceana's campaigns to fight plastic pollution, stop the expansion of offshore drilling and exploration, save the North Atlantic right whale and defend core conservation laws like the Magnuson Stevens Act from regulatory and Congressional rollbacks.
• Lead the development and implementation of an annual plan for Oceana's grassroots/field efforts and revise it as necessary throughout the year.
• Develop advocacy, communications, and grassroots outreach strategies with field staff to achieve the campaigns' goals and report on results throughout the year.
• Support the implementation of inclusive, strategic, and effective organizing tactics, including but not limited to grassroots coalition building, public engagement and repeat volunteerism, legislative advocacy, traditional and social media acquisition, and developing a self-sustaining foundation of support for Oceana's campaign goals.[WC1]
• Monitor, approve, and enforce timely and accurate timekeeping, expense reports, and reporting on deliverables/field activities in Salesforce.
• Recruit, hire, and train new staff as needed.
• Assist in developing campaign messages, strategies, and materials.
• Manage outside relationships with partners, decision-makers, and vendors as needed.

Job Requirements

Education and experience:
• A Bachelor's degree and ten years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least five years of management experience.
• Experience in planning and executing in-person and virtual events and using video conferencing/phone, email, and social media to engage large numbers of supporters.
• Professional training in organizing and executing campaign strategy.
• Experience completing projects under tight deadlines and effectively managing a demanding workload, multi-tasking and taking on new projects, and the capability to effectively lead a diverse team of remote staff.
• Desire and ability to advocate for complex, aggressive conservation positions in both small and large settings.

Skills and knowledge:
• Exceptional management skills with proven ability to lead professional, successful staff and ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
