The communications manager reports to Oceana's director of communications and is a member of the global marketing and communications team. The communications manager is responsible for leading public relations efforts to advance Oceana's campaigns. In addition to securing quality news coverage about the campaigns, the communications manager assists with all forms of communication and outreach related to targeted audiences (e.g., media, elected officials, and supporters), including reports, brochures, and fact sheets.

The communications manager also works closely with Oceana's in-house multimedia team and outside consultants to create materials for the organization's target audiences. This position is also responsible for providing writing and editing support to the campaigns as needed, including drafting opinion pieces, press materials and other documents.

Additionally, the communications manager works with the campaign teams, communications staff, and Oceana's marketing department to develop social media strategies that expand the visibility of Oceana's U.S. campaigns in new and existing social media channels.

Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires quick decision-making under pressure and strong multi-tasking skills.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
• Serve as a communications lead for Oceana's campaigns
• Develop and execute communications strategies for Oceana's campaigns, managing initiatives through research, planning, implementation and evaluation
• Cultivate and manage successful relationships with key journalists, partners, vendors and other stakeholders
• Secure placements for Oceana's campaigns in top local, regional, and national media outlets, including tracking press coverage and meeting specific goals
• Orchestrate, manage, and execute successful media tours and strategic events for Oceana's campaigns
• Conceptualize, develop, and manage production of high-level strategic materials for Oceana's campaigns, ranging from communications plans and press releases to reports and advertising campaigns
• Assist in the development, design and production of reports and other materials, working closely with the campaign teams, communications staff and outside vendors
• Manage outside vendor agreements for Oceana's campaigns with the legal department
• Provide writing and editing support for Oceana's campaigns as needed
• Find opportunities to spread Oceana's campaign messages through traditional and online media sources such as letters-to-the-editor, op-eds, and blog posts. Efforts include drafting, editing, and placing opinion pieces
• Work with Oceana's marketing team to develop a stronger voice for the campaigns across social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
• Secure speaking engagements for Oceana's campaign experts
• Assist with other U.S. communications activities as needed

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field
• At least five years of public relations experience, with expertise in media relations, including pitching and writing for the media

As part of the Global Operation Services team, the HR Operations Director is responsible for ensuring that HR processes are created and managed in a way that supports Oceana's global workforce. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions:

Build and support an employee team that enables Oceana to successfully achieve its campaigns and fulfill its mission.
• Systemize and identify areas for improvement and opportunities to accelerate Oceana's recruiting process to include advertising, screening, and behavioral based interviewing. Counsel managers, and conduct exit interviews as needed.
• Ensure Oceana's onboarding program is working effectively. Define program objectives. Review and improve the onboarding process to ensure objectives are being met. Coordinate and/or conduct New Employee Orientation.
• Monitor and recommend enhancements to Oceana's performance management process. Coach, counsel, and assist managers with objectives and any resulting disputes, staffing situations, and performance improvement plans as requested.
• Monitor HR's use of systems to achieve organizational goals and efficiency. Work with peers within HR, IT, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to define requirements for system improvements or enhancements. Partner with IT on improvements.
• Manage and report HR analytics to provide insight to inform decision making. This will include using the data to design efficient processes and solutions.

Job Requirements Education and Experience
