One specific focus... of the new department will be the development of a hardware-in-the-loop LISA testbed to generate as realistic LISA signals as possible to test the entire data analysis pipeline from photons to source parameters. For this work, we look for candidates with a strong interest in working with FPGAs and DSPs. Some familiarity with VHDL programming is also a plus.
Space-based gravitational wave observatories beyond LISA require new concepts to overcome the many noise sources which limit LISA. Our group is developing and will soon test these new concepts in dedicated new experimental setups. Creative candidates with a good working knowledge of LISA and Advanced LIGO/VIRGO interferometric techniques and suspensions are ideal candidates for these positions.
The department will also work on axion-like particle searches (ALPS) and studies of fundamental interactions such as vacuum magnetic birefringence (VMB). These experiments are highly sophisticated and complex laser interferometric experiments and ideal candidates have experience and/or a strong interest in laser interferometry and/or quantum optics experiments.
Additional postdoctoral positions are or might soon become available in the area of ground-based gravitational-wave observatories (Einstein Telescope and potentially also Cosmic Explorer). We are also always interested in new postdoctoral candidates to work on the LISA project itself. Our focus at the AEI is the LISA phasemeter, simulation, and the LISA interferometry demonstration system.
Please submit your application via our job portal.
You will be asked to upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and a statement of past and future research activities and interest(s) of not more than 3 pages.
