Position Overview:

The lead teacher is responsible for educating students within the classroom and other assigned areas. Develop appropriate curriculum for students. Prepare, instruct, test, correct and grade student work. Provides individual instruction as needed. Establishes and reinforces behavioral expectations as outlined by school procedures and team designed treatment goals.

Responsibilities:
• Follow State Approved Curriculum and prepare written lesson plans; follow scope and sequence, write pre/post-tests; creates examinations and quizzes, provides intervention strategies, etc. for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
• Establish and maintain a positive attitude toward and relations with each and all students.
• Classroom Management-use class time effectively, use effective classroom behavioral interventions and actively engage student in learning.
• Responsible for teaching, modeling, practicing, supporting and articulating the Agency’s treatment philosophy and/or others that may be required contractually.
• Reinforce behavioral expectations as outlined by Holy Cross Services, school procedures and team designed treatment plans.
• Implement and/or monitor behavior treatment plans.
• Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration (Pre/Post Testing).
• Collect and tabulate instructional data.
• Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements (IEP, EDP, Transition Plans, or personal curriculum, student grades and individual lessons).
• Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, unit teams, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Participate fully in the annual evaluation process as mandated by Michigan Department of Education and Holy Cross Services.
• Establish and maintain a positive attitude in working with students, parents, case workers, law enforcement officials, other HCS staff members and community members who partner to serve these students.
• Actively contribute to a positive team dynamic.
• Participate in required meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Direct paraprofessionals, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Support other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
• Participate as a member of the School Improvement Team.
• Keep all student, unit and co-worker information confidential.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of teaching experience.
• Secondary Certification required

Purpose Statement

Essential Functions

Analyzes class and grade level data in mathematics at assigned elementary school(s) for the purpose of sharing information with teachers and making informed decisions relative to instructional practices.

Assesses skills and needs (both initially and ongoing) of teachers and students within an elementary school setting for the purpose of determining the kinds of professional development and strategies needed to bring about student achievement and gains in value-added scores in mathematics.

Assists teachers for the purpose of supporting them in the implementation of standards-based instruction.

Collaborates with teachers, administrators, district personnel and others for the purpose of building rapport and positive interpersonal relationships between all parties in support of math education.

Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. building principals, lead teachers, parents, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.

Communicates with a variety of parties (e.g. instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, students, etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions; achieving established program objectives and/or and planning curriculum.

Confers with other special area instructional staff regarding a variety of topics (e.g. instructional techniques, organization of practices, strategies, etc.) for the purpose of providing guidance and mentoring.

Coordinates program components, support needs and materials for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines.

Facilitates meetings, workshops, trainings, etc. for the purpose of providing professional development opportunities for teachers, principals, administrators, and faculty in assigned curriculum area.

Mentors elementary teachers (e.g. coaches, etc.) for the purpose of building capacity to teach and improving mathematics instruction.

Participates in professional development activities (e.g. District workshops, self-directed of newest trends in Math instruction, etc.) for the purpose of providing implementation of optimal methods, materials, assessment to enhance curriculum development.

Participates in ongoing job-embedded professional development (e.g. meetings, in-service trainings, conferences, workshops, trainings, and seminars, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information related to math content knowledge, pedagogy, and coaching.

Prepares a variety of written and electronic materials (e.g. planning and pacing guides, classroom materials, reports, etc.) for the purpose of demonstrating best practices in math instruction, and/or conveying information to teachers, tutors, interventionist, etc.

Recommends investigation or implementation of varied instructional materials, including textbooks, reference works, kits, trade books, audiovisual aids, etc for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in math materials center, professional library, and availability of items as needed.

Researches a variety of topics for the purpose of providing information on specific math programs.

Supports teachers for the purpose of ensuring district systems and curriculum are implemented with fidelity.

Trains teachers and new staff members (e.g. support plans, in-service meetings, teaching techniques, test administration and test preparation training, etc.) for the purpose of improving teacher performance in math related areas.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. As a Math Tutor, you’ll be placed at a local school where you’ll help students in elementary or middle school to improve their core math skills and gain confidence. Every day, you’ll meet with groups of 2-3 students to provide extra practice and build skills.

With great training and on-site coaching, we’ll prepare you to help kids succeed. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the entire school year. We are currently recruiting tutors for the 2023-24 school year, with the option of beginning in August, October or January.

This is an AmeriCorps member position with Math Corps and you’ll be joining a team of 300 tutors nationwide. Together we’re on a mission to multiply a student’s future opportunities through math!

What to Expect:
• Use proven strategies to help students build their skills and confidence.
• Collaborate with coaches to monitor student progress and see what’s working.
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data management software.
• Respond to feedback and commit to continuous improvement through coaching, training and professional development.
• Represent Math Corps at school-sponsored activities and share your experience with the wider community to help build awareness.

Perks Package:

Serve as a tutor and receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 27.5 or 20 hours per week.

35 hours/week perks:
• A stipend of $955 paid every 2 weeks
• $21,010total for 1200 hours of service starting in August 2023
• $16,235 total for 900 hours of service starting in October 2023
• Up to $4,826 for tuition or student loans*
• $4,826 total for members beginning their service in August 2023
• $3,447 total for members beginning their service in October 2023
• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
• Child care assistance — Based on family size and income

27.5 hours/week perks:
• A stipend of $720 paid every 2 weeks
• $15,840 total for 900 hours of service starting in August 2023
• $12,240 total for 675 hours of service starting in October 2023
• $7,920 total for 450 hours of service starting in January 2024
• Up to $3,447 for tuition or student loans*
• $3,447 total for members beginning their service in August 2023
• $2,626 total for members beginning their service in October 2023
• $1,824 total for members beginning their service in January 2024

20 hours/week perks:
• A stipend of $525 paid every 2 weeks
• $11,550 total for 675 hours of service starting in August 2023

• The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term at the start of their service term may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child, or stepchild.

What it Takes:

Math Corps takes ordinary people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to take action for kids – and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:
• Dependable and have a history of good attendance
• Able to understand and follow instructions
• Open to making improvements based on feedback
• Capable of setting a pace and maintain a schedule with students
• Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
• Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
• 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
• A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
• Able to successfully complete a background check
• Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.

We are seeking a part-time high school math teacher to teach in a classical and Catholic classroom for 12 hours per week. You do not need a teaching certification nor formal teaching experience to apply. We will teach you everything you need to know. The right applicant may have experience homeschooling or working with homeschool children, ministry in your Catholic parish, teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes, teaching your own children, or perhaps teaching in a classical or private school (although not required).

Regina Caeli Academy (www.rcahybrid.org), is a classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition. RCA is a national organization that offers instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting on Mondays and Thursdays. The positions are hourly, and complimentary childcare/nursery is provided. Applicants must be able to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church and have a deep love for the Catholic faith. Curriculum and grading guidelines are provided. The ideal applicant will have strong communication skills, good organization, timeliness, a traditional view of the student/teacher relationship, and must be living the Catholic faith day-to-day, including having received all the sacraments appropriate to his or her state in life.
