Audit Senior - Employee Benefit Plan Specialist

Why build your Audit & Assurance career at Perkins & Co?

Great people. Interesting, complex work. Community involvement. Competitive pay and benefits. Collaboration. Diversity. Reasonable travel requirements. Mentoring. Flexibility for a sustainable career.

Perkins has always been a different kind of accounting firm, and one of the things that we do better than others is facilitating long-term career success. We do that in several ways, one of them being reasonable hours expectations. Full-time Seniors are expected to work 2200 - 2250 total hours/1550 - 1650 billable hours annually (expectations vary per level of experience). This means the busy season target is 45 - 50 hours/week with generally no expectation to work weekends.

Of course, there’s also competitive pay, benefits, and perks (including remote work). Generally, the salary range for Audit Senior is $80K - $96K annually. The recruiting team will be happy to discuss salary during your initial conversation, including variables such level of experience, any desire for reduced hours, bonuses, benefits, etc. Compensation may be adjusted for those who live in areas with a higher cost of labor than Portland, OR.

What's expected of an Audit Senior?

You will prepare or supervise field audit engagements depending on the type and size of the engagement and your level of experience as a Senior. You will be expected to assist in designing the audit approach and planning all aspects of the job including the scope of the project and the technical aspects of the work. You will be responsible for inspecting clients' financial records, compiling and analyzing data, preparing detailed accounting reports and proposing solutions to technical accounting research issues.

As your career progresses you will begin to supervise Staff Accountants, prepare a detailed budget for each person involved in the engagement, and assist with coordinating meetings with the client and other members of the client service team.

This Audit Senior position will specialize in Employee Benefit Plans. This means that while you’ll work roughly 40 hours/week on general audit & assurance work during the conventional busy season, that won’t be your primary focus. Instead, during summer/fall, you’ll play a critical role in our EBP practice and complete about a dozen EBP audits.

What you WON'T do: Spend more time in hotel rooms than you do at home. Our travel expectations are light.

Who qualifies?
• 2+ years of recent public accounting experience, preferably with a large local, regional, or national firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required and must be CPA exam eligible.
• Experience completing EBP audits is required
• Professional communication skills (written and verbal).
• Proficient with use of office technology and software (Microsoft Office required; APT preferred)
• High level of integrity and trustworthiness
• Proven ability to give and receive constructive criticism
• Strong problem solving, organizational and detail skills
• Ability to travel (mostly locally; occasional out-of-area travel); expectations may be adjusted for a remote employee living outside the area
• CPA license is preferred

Want to hear more? Please submit your application so we can get the conversation started! You may also email our recruiting team (Areena McLaughlin and Julie Brodell-Martin) at careers@perkinsaccounting.com if you have questions.
