Job Description

Summary

NBC News Now is expanding big time and fast. We need a creative, passionate team of journalists to make the magic happen at NBC News NOW Daily, a show that airs on both our streaming network and NBC broadcast affiliates.

Get in touch if you’re a nimble Line Producer who thrives in the control room, loves a fast-changing, breaking news environment, interesting stories, knows how to build a great rundown and wants to be part of a super-collaborative team.

Responsibilities/Job Duties
• Work with senior producers and EP to build daily rundowns and oversee changes when breaking news hits
• Work with show directors to block and time programming
• Approve and copy edit scripts, as needed
• Pitch ideas
• Work with producers to come up with the strongest elements for each segment
• Craft headlines and teases that are engaging no matter the time constraint – for both breaking news and scheduled programming
• Write fresh copy as needed
• Communicate time and roll cues with guests and correspondents

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• You’ve been working in broadcast, live streaming or cable for 5+ years.
• You've worked on live daily shows for 3+ years.
• You have at least 1+ years’ experience as a line producer.
• Demonstrated and proven excellent editorial judgement and understanding of journalistic standards.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a control room including but not limited to: moving the rundown as needed, backtiming a show in real-time, remaining calm and communicative under pressure, writing and copy editing on the fly.
• You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience.
• You are willing to work in New York, New York
• This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

• You have an eye for accuracy and creativity when it comes to video and graphics.
• You love finding interesting stories that will set the show apart and have a passion for great storytelling.

• Be skeptical, but not cynical – be genuinely excited by the changes and disruptions to the US economy and beyond, but also ready to take a critical look at why those changes are taking place.

• And last but never least: Editors are often the final step before a story goes to CNN's programming team to get distributed to millions of people worldwide; all editors work intently to make sure our stories are accurate and fair so that we continue to grow the trust between CNN and our audiences.

• Work with a broad range of team members, including News Corp. and the Dow Jones' portfolio of brands
• Direct executive communications and speechwriting, including presentations, op-eds and speaking opportunities for our senior leaders

You Have:
• 15+ years of experience leading communications teams
• 10+ years of experience specifically related to external communications
• The ability to easily translate our goals into communications strategies
• Demonstrated excellence in media relations and crisis management, in an always-on environment
• Successes as a thought leader who has shown to move with and ahead of industry trends
• Depth in traditional and digital media
• Influential relationships at all levels in a global matrix organization, with experience consulting C-suite executives
• The ability to balance interests across team members while maintaining the safety and soundness of the company, and ensuring a customer/employee lens
• Experience leading a team and experience cultivating strong performing and diverse teams, and company culture
• Experience building and maintaining a business relationships in a hybrid environment
