Bain & Company helps transform the world's most important businesses into vigorous, agile organizations that anticipate the unpredictable, adapt rapidly to disruption and outcompete their opposition. We work with clients who do not hide from the future but want to define it, clients with high potential and high ambition, determined to adapt and become enduring... winners.

The firm was founded in 1973 on the principle that Bain consultants must measure their success by their clients' results. Delivering transformative results has always been a strength and competitive differentiator for Bain.

With 65 offices in 40 countries, Bain has worked with the majority of the Global 500, thousands of major regional and local organizations, hundreds of non-profits, and private equity funds representing 75% of global equity capital. We are proud of our clients' track record, like the fact that our public clients have historically outperformed the stock market 4 to 1.

Organizationally and culturally, Bain is very much a partnership. The environment is highly collegial, team-oriented, and apolitical. There is very little hierarchy and a great deal of autonomy – which translates into both entrepreneurial freedom and mutual respect and accountability.

Enterprise Technology Practice

One of Bain’s most strategically important and fastest-growing practices, the Enterprise Technology Practice is foundational to Bain’s Digital Delivery Platform, called Vector™. We help clients realize the full business potential from their technology resources, investments, and assets. Our global network of partners has supported 1000+ technology engagements, including the world’s most complex global companies. Bain also leverages a strong partner ecosystem for implementation & delivery services when required.

Bain provides a full range of services to support a wide range of companies to transform and sustain their technology portfolio and organization, with primary focus on:
• Strategy: Bain helps define client’s technology strategy to support wider company goals and ambitions. Once defined, Bain will often co-create with clients the roadmap to implement strategic vision.
• Architecture: Bain assesses client’s technology stack and architecture and identifies short- and long-term modernization opportunities. Assessment can be on entire technology stack or specific topics like application portfolio, core systems, etc.
• Operating model: often as part of Technology transformation cases, Bain develops a tactical plan to evolve a client’s operating model from waterfall setup to product-oriented delivery. This plan addresses key topics like Agile ways of working; org structure and accountabilities; talent engine; and management system.
• Cost transformation: Bain maps and benchmarks client’s technology costs and develops a long-term plan to create a sustainable spend base that supports current and future tech investments.
• Mergers & acquisitions: either during or after the M&A process, Bain will assess tech stack and IT organization of the two companies and build a plan for timely, cost-effective, and smooth integration.
• Migration strategy: after all the transformation opportunities have been identified as part of strategy, architecture, operating model, and cost work, Bain co-creates the implementation plan and supports the successful roll-out to the rest of the firm.

Position summary:

Bain & Company is looking to recruit affiliated Consultants for our Enterprise Technology team to build upon the firm’s capabilities in the Americas. Bain currently works with its clients to transform and modernize their technology capabilities and systems to enable their full-potential enterprise strategy. These affiliated Consultants will likely come from a consulting organization with a focus on technology strategy and will have a successful track record of identifying issues, creating hypotheses, and executing analyses in at least 2-3 technology-based cases.

The Enterprise Technology Practice is fully integrated within the structure, culture, and product offering of Bain and is not a separate product/service organization. As such, affiliated Consultants in Enterprise Technology will have the same responsibilities and tasks of a generalist Consultant supporting client organizations in making pivotal decisions and transforming their enterprise, only with a primary focus on technology.

The position will have a regional focus with the intent to leverage results and learnings across the Enterprise Technology practice globally. • Collaborate closely with colleagues working alongside you on a case team, including generalists and deep technology experts, as well as our Enterprise Technology practice team
• In the first year, you will directly manage your own workstream to deliver Enterprise Technology case work for clients across a range of industries. As you become more senior, this may expand to include 1-2 junior consultants, internal, or external partners.
• Drive analysis, design, and implementation of business and technology solutions, developing tailor-made solutions and working closely with clients
• Gather and analyze information, formulate and test hypotheses, and develop recommendations for presentation to client management and work with clients to implement change to achieve desired outcomes
• You’ll work directly with junior and mid-level clients – usually on site – and you’ll take ownership of the client relationship, assets, and expected work products

Capability/Practice Building
• Develop technology intellectual property and enabling tools that are truly distinctive in terms of helping drive extraordinary client outcomes and enabling practice growth
• Support Bain’s strategy to expand and reinforce its market share, brand, and client awareness in the Enterprise Technology capability space, with a focus on technology strategy, architecture, operating model, and cost transformation.

Team/Talent Engagement
• Help maintain a non-hierarchical culture that attracts and breeds entrepreneurship and innovation; help position the Practice – and Bain more broadly – as a “great place to work.”
• Lead individual workstream and be a mentor to junior team members
• Support recruiting efforts for on-campus, industry, and other channels throughout the year

Professional Experience/Qualifications

Successful candidates will have a track record of client work in technology, team and client promoters, and alignment to the key requirements for the role. Experience working with global clients or organizations is a plus.

• Deep expertise/experience in a single or small set of specific technology topics is a plus

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
The Bain Macro Trends Group (MTG) is the capability group for developing Bain's insights about global macroeconomics, macro social trends and geopolitics as they impact the results of Bain's clients. The group's proprietary research includes work on trends driving global growth in GDP and in capital markets, as well as specific geographic analyses (including China, the United States and the Eurozone), which it uses to help clients understand the potential impact of the volatile global environment on their businesses.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Associate Economist will have three primary responsibilities:
• Regional MTG expert for their assigned region (APAC, N America, W Europe, or LatAm). This will include monitoring and analysis of current events affecting major economies within the region, developing intellectual property (IP) for medium to longer term perspectives for these economies, and translating these multi-year viewpoints into evergreen quantitative scenarios for the region.
• Cross-regional collaboration and contribution to IP development of thematic macro trends (e.g., Post-globalization, Capital superabundance, Labor automation).
• Regular contributions of content to the MTG digital platform primarily focused on region specific issues, and their potential significance and implications across regions.

The individual will have had strong experience in defining and translating broader macro issues of some nature (economic, demographics, social and/or technological) into practical questions that can be understood through clear and cogent analysis, as well as facility with macroeconomic analysis. Additional facility with demographic, macrosocial and technological analysis is a plus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• 60%- IP: Develop world-class points of view on the outlook for the key regional economies of their assigned regions, as well as contribute to global “thematic” IP (e.g., Post-Globalization, Capital Superabundance) which cut across regions. This work product directly reaches over 800 clients and over 4000 individual subscribers, and is therefore expected to be externally-ready.
• 15% - Engage with/manage rotational client teams in implementing macro trends work and developing IP as it pertains to in-region issues or cross-regional thematic IP.
• 10% - Support MTG leadership’s vision with ideas and developments of additional products/services that Bain’s clients will value.
• 10% - Work across economist team as an effective cross-regional collaborator especially thinking through the integration of regional issues with global and/or thematic implications.
• 5%- Advisory support to teams for highest priority clients with familiarization to regional POVs, ad hoc customization as a subject matter expert.

ABOUT YOU
Required:
• Undergraduate degree or substantial studies in macroeconomics
• 5+ years in a non-rote quantitative-analytical field
• 5+ years of communicating in presentations and written formats in a business or policy setting
• Track record developing compelling macro points of view, from source data to final presentation
• Consultant level client-facing role or equivalent experience
• Ability to generate cutting-edge macro insights (geographic or thematic)
• Quantitative macroeconomic model development (e.g., DSGE)
• Experience in a client service environment, cultivating and growing client relationships
• Senior presence in meetings and high caliber client/communications skills. Influential with senior executives on relevant topics and ‘holds own’ regarding macro POV and implications with other subject matter experts

Preferred:
• Master's degree in Economics, Public Policy or International Relations
• Statistical (e.g., econometric) and/or programming coursework including computational techniques for economic modeling
• Facility with both the Bain toolkit and strong facility with macroeconomic analysis in a business advisory setting
• Experience with a major statistical analysis package (e.g., Stata, SPSS) or macroeconomic tool (e.g., Macrobond)

Personal Attributes:
• Irrespective of an individual’s specific background, the successful candidate will be: Entrepreneurial, proactive, and productive; someone who instinctively knows what needs to be done and rallies colleagues to get things accomplished; “rolls up the sleeves” and gets things done
• Pragmatic—with a strong problem-solving facility and a practical “real-world” sense for what is do-able and critical for getting the right answer (versus trying to find every answer); a business-sense for honing in on implications that are actionable
• Intuition for structural analysis—seeing the structure of an argument to identify where analytical force needs to be applied versus where “good enough” will do
