Working closely with Project Management and Operations Personnel to execute field work within a project area and complete documentation of the field efforts undertaken;
Coordination and communication with other field archaeologists;
Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field;
Completed an accredited archaeological field school;
Experience performing archaeological survey and excavation;
Ability to work well with others and be a proactive part of a project team; A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation;
Ability to operate GPS units and navigate using USGS maps/aerial photography preferred.
These are full time, salaried, positions with full benefits package. These positions come with a generous health insurance package that includes vision and dental coverage, as well as paid time off for six Federal holidays, vacation (40 hours to start), sick leave (40 hours per year). WSP is currently initiating a search for on-call, Part-Time Field Archaeologists for our Washington, DC office to assist with Phase I and II archaeological investigations. The responsibilities of station archeologists are multifaceted and dynamic, ranging from academic scholarship to public outreach and preservation. Research is integral to ARAS’ mission, and the qualified candidate will develop an innovative research program in their designated station area, conduct said research individually and in collaboration with colleagues and/or descendant communities, seek internal and external funding to support their endeavors, and present and publish the results of scholarship in local, regional, and national venues. Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $800/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: ACE member will be accommodated in dormitory style park housing that is available at no cost for the duration of the term.
ACE member will need to use their own vehicle for transportation to and from NPS headquarters building, which is a distance of roughly 16 miles from dormitory.
Scheduling: ACE Member will generally work ~40 hours/week and will have the option of working 8-hour days, five days per week OR 9-hour days with every other Friday off. For either schedule, work will begin at 8 am. The ACE Member will follow the authorized schedule of NPS staff, which consists of a 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks throughout the day.
Position Description:
The ACE member will receive professional field experience and exposure to the archaeological/cultural resource program at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA). For the duration of the internship, they will be joining professional National Park Service (NPS) archaeologists in conducting fieldwork at various prehistoric (Chumash, Tongva, and Tatavium) and historic archaeological resource locations throughout the park to meet the park’s needs.
The ACE Member will be splitting time between conducting archaeological surveys in the field and compiling data to draft archaeological site records and reports in the office at the NPS headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. Additionally, the intern will have some opportunities to conduct preliminary historical research to supplement the archeological information. Work in the office is somewhat sedentary, while fieldwork is more physically demanding. Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $800/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: ACE member will be accommodated in dormitory style park housing that is available at no cost for the duration of the term.
ACE member will need to use their own vehicle for transportation to and from NPS headquarters building, which is a distance of roughly 16 miles from dormitory.
Scheduling: ACE Member will generally work ~40 hours/week and will have the option of working 8-hour days, five days per week OR 9-hour days with every other Friday off. For either schedule, work will begin at 8 am. The ACE Member will follow the authorized schedule of NPS staff, which consists of a 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks throughout the day.
Position Description:
The ACE member will receive professional field experience and exposure to the archaeological/cultural resource program at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA). For the duration of the internship, they will be joining professional National Park Service (NPS) archaeologists in conducting fieldwork at various prehistoric (Chumash, Tongva, and Tatavium) and historic archaeological resource locations throughout the park to meet the park’s needs.
The ACE Member will be splitting time between conducting archaeological surveys in the field and compiling data to draft archaeological site records and reports in the office at the NPS headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. Additionally, the intern will have some opportunities to conduct preliminary historical research to supplement the archeological information. Work in the office is somewhat sedentary, while fieldwork is more physically demanding.
