Field Archaeologists – R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc. has immediate openings for full time field archaeologists to work out of our three offices, New Orleans, LA, Frederick MD, and Lawrence, KS, on a variety of local and non-local projects. Projects will be mobilized from each of our three offices and will consist... of Phase I surveys, Phase II Testing Projects, and Phase III data recovery projects for a diverse client base. Most projects will require travel for which single occupancy lodging and per diem reimbursements will be provided (no receipts required).
Working closely with Project Management and Operations Personnel to execute field work within a project area and complete documentation of the field efforts undertaken;
Coordination and communication with other field archaeologists;
Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field;
Completed an accredited archaeological field school;
Experience performing archaeological survey and excavation;
Ability to work well with others and be a proactive part of a project team; A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation;
Ability to operate GPS units and navigate using USGS maps/aerial photography preferred.
These are full time, salaried, positions with full benefits package. These positions come with a generous health insurance package that includes vision and dental coverage, as well as paid time off for six Federal holidays, vacation (40 hours to start), sick leave (40 hours per year). Field archaeologists that remain with the company for one year are eligible to participate in the company’s 401(k) plan.

WSP is currently initiating a search for on-call, Part-Time Field Archaeologists for our Washington, DC office to assist with Phase I and II archaeological investigations. Be involved in projects with our Heritage Resource Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
• Assist with field projects during all phases of archaeological testing (primarily Phase I and II) by performing pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, test unit excavation supervised by a Field Director
• Document findings through detailed note taking including Munsell soil descriptions and completing field forms
• Assist in prehistoric and historic artifact identification and document archaeological deposits
• Work as part of a team
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or related field
• Archaeological field school
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions
• Local to Troy, NY and surrounding region is preferred. Opportunities to work in other states is possible
• This is an on-call, hourly position. Hourly rates are industry competitive ($18.00-$20.00/hour, based upon American CRM experience)
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety & drug/alcohol and harassment policies

About On-Call Employment with ICF:

Given the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF often hires environmental professionals as "On-Call" employees. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available (we usually schedule work hours a few weeks ahead of time), and each on-call employee is free to accept or refuse the hours assigned to them in a given week. On-Call employees may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment (as long as their outside work does not create a conflict of interest with the work they do for ICF).

What you'll be doing:
• Phase I Archaeological Surveys for Infrastructure Projects throughout the Southeastern United States. Duties will include the excavation of shovel tests; recordation of data for each test on field forms; delineation of archaeological sites; recovery of artifacts; and other tasks associated with Phase I Survey
• Phase II Evaluative Testing for Potentially Eligible Archaeological Sites. Duties will include excavation of close interval shovel tests and formal excavation units; recordation of stratigraphic data
• Archaeological Monitoring for Construction

What you need to have (Minimum Qualifications):
• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related discipline
• 1+ year(s) professional experience in Archaeological field work
• Must have valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check

What we would like you to have (Preferred Qualifications):
• Be able to conduct field work in remote locations and be comfortable in the field environment
• Perform physically demanding tasks in various environments, including high temperatures
• Recognize the importance of consistent procedures and protocols. Local candidates currently residing in the Southeast are highly preferred
• Work experience includes archaeological survey and excavation, preferably in the Southeastern United States
• Experience with GPS technologies
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent field skills, artifact analyses, and accurate keeping of field notes and records
