The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgement, leadership skills, and is passionate about creating memorable and impactful content. The Assistant News Director collaborates directly with the Vice President of News and other members of the news leadership team, to execute strategic vision for creating high impact content, innovating multi-platform storytelling and developing newsroom systems that support strategic goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• The candidate will lead daily newsgathering(s) and content presentation(s) across linear, digital and streaming platforms

• The candidate can show ability to aggressively lead breaking news, First Alert weather coverage, and cultivate the news into creation of high impact content

• The candidate will be responsible for overall presentation and editorial content of daily linear newscasts

• The candidate will collaborate with station leadership and ABC OTV to establish and execute strategies to overachieve our goals

• The candidate will evaluate the performance of anchors, reporters, and producers

• The candidate will work closely with Vice President of News on recruitment and development

• The candidate will develop and implement plans for special reports, I-Team, election coverage, streaming specials and documentaries

• The candidate will show the ability to Identify opportunities for special news coverage and strategic advantages

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of local news management experience

• Detail-oriented and understands how the content drives the storytelling format for various platforms

• Works effectively under deadline pressure

• Is empathetic, collaborative and supportive to all members of the station team

• Must be flexible with working hours and adaptable to change

• Ability to make logical decisions in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (preferred in Journalism) or equivalent work experience
