The LSE will lead our 3-person IT/software engineering team and be hands-on with DevOps and development.
This role is for someone who welcomes the challenge of leading engineering efforts across existing and future products.

The LSE is responsible for all engineering efforts.
Working with business leadership to define technology strategies that align with business and product needs, the LSE will take a leading role in refining and unifying technology platforms for both established products and future products.
The LSE is responsible for ensuring our engineering team functions well, including coaching team members, building and maintaining a cohesive technical team, recruiting new team members, managing development efforts, and being mindful of schedule and budget.

This is a full-time position and a candidate within driving distance to West Los Angeles or Ojai, California is preferred.

The company s two websites are PilatesAnytime.com and YogaAnytime.com.
The company is vertically integrated through the entire video production cycle from idea generation to video distribution and is based in Los Angeles with filming studios in Ojai and Carpinteria, California.
Customers in over 160 countries interact with our videos through our two websites, iOS app, Android app, AppleTV app, and Roku app.

We are expanding our product offering and seeking a Lead Software Engineer who is passionate about the intersection of technology and wellness to join our Leadership Team.
This position reports to the CEO.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work closely with senior management and Product/UX Team Members to collaboratively define product direction.
• Define strategic goals for products and technology, working with developers to prioritize necessary strategic or tactical efforts.
• Be an architectural leader, drive the evolution of the systems architecture, and make appropriate technology choices across both existing and new systems to create a technology roadmap that makes sense for the organization.
• Lead our DevOps and development practices, creating consistency of build and deployment processes, and improving the effectiveness and velocity of the development team.
• Lead, grow, and inspire a distributed engineering team to perform at a high level, achieve its objectives, collaborate with other parts of the organization, and deliver quality products.
• Coach and develop team members to ensure continuous improvement.
• Facilitate regular agile process activities including assisting in development of user stories, estimates, and agile ceremonies.
• Be an individual contributor, not just a manager.
In a typical week, you might spend approximately 50% of your time designing, coding, reviewing, creating unit tests, etc.
as an individual contributor.
• Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and participating in code reviews.
• Package and support deployment of releases and help with transition to more automated deployment processes.
• Refine and manage development processes, track overall development efforts, budget and schedule.
• Be a champion of information security within the organization and help us identify and prioritize necessary security-related development tasks.
• Be aware of future needs, be interested in new technologies and how they might impact the product and technology, and help the organization adopt and adapt.
• Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position.

QUALIFICATIONS
• B.S.
in Computer Science or similar field
• 5+ years of experience in a software management role, ideally with 2+ years reporting to the CEO and experience managing remote teams.
• Experience working in smaller companies.
• Experience working with off-shore developers.
• Experience working closely with product management and UX/UI resources to collaboratively define product roadmaps.
• Excellent communication and management skills.
• Experience evaluating 3rd party technology and integrating into an overall technology plan.
• Experience with application deployments in AWS.
• Capable of deep dives into code and production environments.
• Positive personality and overall approach that motivates people.
• Bonus:
hands-on experience with streaming media technologies, especially adaptive streaming video, HLS, video encoding, or online video providers.

experience in a direct-to-consumer (D2C) ecommerce business.

experience working with off-shore developers.

WHO YOU ARE
• You are a proven engineering team leader including whole-lifecycle design, implementation, and delivery of proprietary systems.
• You have demonstrable ability to interview and on-board engineering talent that is a good culture fit.
• You are experienced supervising and managing others including staff development, feedback, coaching and performance reviews.
• You have experience managing third-party contractors and vendors.
• You thrive working on simultaneous projects of varying complexities.
• You have expert level architecture, programming, and debugging skills in a mainstream high-performance back-end language such as Java or C# and modern web front-end in JavaScript, Bootstrap, or similar.
• You have experience with ColdFusion or are willing to learn.
• You are experienced with performance-oriented software development, including performance analysis, scaling, and tuning.
• You excel at designing and implementing internal web APIs
