Position Focus
The individual will work under the supervision of the Healthcare-Associated Infections – Community Interface (HAIC) project manager in the Yale Emerging Infections Program (EIP) and will aid in the implementation and data collection for the 2023 Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Use Prevalence Survey. The individual will also provide support... for other HAIC projects as needed (candidemia and C. difficile surveillance).
Primary responsibilities: work with participating hospitals to receive electronic line lists of a random sample of eligible acute care inpatients on the morning of each hospital’s survey date; enter survey data into a project database developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); review medical records both in office and at hospitals throughout CT to complete the prevalence survey data forms; ensure integrity of data in the database through routine data checks and cleaning procedures; assist in data analyses, report generation, and data close-out; participate in conference calls and face-to-face meetings with CDC, CT DPH, and other EIP site staff for training and to discuss survey procedures, including protocol and survey form implementation and standardization of data collection and data entry—this may require travel to Hartford, Atlanta, GA, and possibly other states.
Secondary responsibilities: access reports entered electronically into CT Electronic Disease Surveillance System (CTEDSS); contact providers to gather required clinical and epidemiological information via FAX, telephone, and secure email; assist with other activities as necessary to maintain the daily functions of the EIP HAIC Program (candidemia and C. difficile surveillance); assist with other special EIP projects as needed—such activities may include emergency public health response to disease outbreaks (case or control follow-up, chart review, telephone interview, etc.) or special investigations as indicated by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Required Education And Experience

Position Focus
Reporting to the Manager/Supervisor of a Husbandry Unit, provide operational assistance to the Manager, Supervisor, and Animal Technician E within a husbandry Unit. Ensure and maintain established standards by performing scheduled quality control assessments of designated animal rooms and support areas. Perform a variety of skilled animal husbandry duties and specialized services for animals and animal colonies, including gnotobiotic colonies.
Coordinate and oversee program activities for animal environments, housing and husbandry within designated areas of a Unit. Using established criteria and check lists, perform regularly scheduled quality control assessments of animal rooms and support areas to ensure and maintain established standards. Regularly review PI Special Instructions (SI) in order to ensure that all animal cages with SI are clearly and accurately labeled. Monitor room log notebooks to ensure that animal care complies with SI and University and government regulations. Using established criteria and checklists, oversee the monitoring of physical environmental parameters, certification of clean air devices, rack and equipment rotation and animal housing automatic water systems and ventilation. Submit, track and monitor maintenance requests; act as a point of contact for request follow up. Provide husbandry and specialized services for animals in animal colonies. Maintain, sanitize and decontaminate animal caging, equipment, rooms and facilities within germ-free, hazardous and conventional areas to established standards. Coordinate, participate and train in a variety of routine and complex technical procedures and activities related to the care of gnotobiotic animals used in research. Perform sample collection for verification of germ-free status; keep detailed records of samples and isolator usage. Using specialized knowledge of gnotobiotic husbandry, discuss research projects with investigators to plan procedures and the introduction of animals and supplies into and out of isolators. This requires a high level of coordination, planning and prioritization. Provide assistance to Rodent Preventative Medicine by reporting changes in room populations (i.e. number of racks) for placement of sentinels/targeted sentinels for the rodent QA program. Coordinate with the Unit Manager/Supervisor, Rodent Services and Unit scheduler to implement room moves, targeted sentinels and handling of equipment. Participate in startup meetings for in vivo use of hazardous agents. Serve as the principal source of information for the meeting attendees (YARC and investigator) regarding availability and location of YARC supplies and equipment required for the research project. Confirm that appropriate signage is posted in assigned areas. Communicate with the Unit Manager/Supervisor regarding any issues. Maintain inventory of food, bedding and supplies; establish, maintain and forecast a list of quantities to have available in designated areas, order supplies (internally and externally), as needed. Observe and evaluate animals for signs of illness and stress and deviations in animal conditions. Feed, house and handle animals in accordance with all regulations. Perform animal care under veterinary oversight, which may include minor treatments, pre- and post-procedural care and providing enrichment to individual animal species. Provide husbandry and specialized services for animals in animal colonies. Maintain, sanitize and decontaminate animal caging, rooms and facilities within hazardous areas to established standards. Train and/or instruct staff, appropriate to level, on animal care and room sanitation techniques. Maintain detailed records as required by institutional, local and federal regulations. High noise areas that may require hearing protection. 7. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. 8. Must be able to push / pull 70 lbs. 9. Exposure to wet, slippery work surfaces.

Perform animal care under veterinary oversight, which may include minor treatments, pre- and post-procedural care and providing enrichment to individual animal species. Train and/or instruct staff, appropriate to level, on animal care and room sanitation techniques. Maintain detailed records as required by institutional, local and federal regulations. Assist with SOP development, participate in focus groups. May perform additional related tasks as necessary.
Essential Duties
• Using specialized knowledge of gnotobiotic husbandry, discuss research projects with investigators to plan procedures and the introduction of animals and supplies into and out of isolators. This requires a high level of coordination, planning and prioritization. 2. Coordinate, participate and train in a variety of routine and complex technical procedures and activities related to the care of gnotobiotic animals used in research. Perform sample collection for verification of germ-free status; keep detailed records of samples and isolator usage. 3. Provide husbandry and specialized services for animals in animal colonies. Maintain, sanitize and decontaminate animal caging, equipment, rooms and facilities within germ-free, hazardous and conventional areas to established standards. 4. Using established criteria and checklists, oversee the monitoring of physical environmental parameters (such as temperature, humidity, differential air pressure, lights), certification of clean air devices, rack and equipment rotation and animal housing automatic water systems and ventilation. Submit, track and monitor maintenance requests; act as a point of contact for request follow up. 5. Observe and evaluate animals for signs of illness and stress and deviations in animal conditions. Feed, house and handle animals in accordance with all regulations. 6. Perform animal care under veterinary oversight, which may include minor treatments, pre and post procedural care, and providing enrichment to individual animal species.
Required Education And Experience
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or four years of related experience and an Associate Degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Staff and students will work at all scales, from small-scale models and prototypes to full-scale exhibition components. They will participate in many different initiatives, including creation of exhibition installations and graphics, design and construction of specialist mounts and supports for objects, design and build of media installations, preparation of specimens and objects for exhibition, fabrication of components for mechanical engineering projects, elements for art installations, and more. Staff and students work in a wide variety of materials including wood and wood products, plastics and resins, glass, ferrous and nonferrous metals, and biological materials. In addition to instruction, project management, and workflow management, the Shops Manager, in coordination with the Exhibitions Department's Museum Technician, is responsible for managing budgets, maintaining and updating equipment, and ordering and inventorying supplies.
Safety is of paramount importance in the Peabody Shops.
