BASIC FUNCTION:
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships through appreciative advising. This relationship intends to assist the student in optimizing their educational experience, support retention, and progress toward on-time graduation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide academic advising by developing collaborative relationships with Talent Development students through appreciative advising.
Hold weekly individual and group meetings with Talent Development students.
Conduct Progress Check Point evaluations with Talent Development students.
Develop and coordinate programs that support retention, such as learning strategies, access to resources, and services that assist in navigating higher education institutions, learning and study strategies, and workshops for summer participants.
Maintain confidential records regarding students, program documents, and all confidential information.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of University policies and procedures that support and assist in retaining students.
Assist with parent and family engagement.
Participate in scholastic standing review as needed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent Talent Development on campus wide committees.
Assist with Social Media accounts and student communication. Communicate with advising caseload regarding special events and university programs.
Work evenings and weekends, when necessary.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.
Required Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Minimum of three years of combined experience in two or more of the following: advising in an academic program setting, coordinating programs, and/or working in a Title IV grant program.
3. Demonstrated school-based experience and/or community work experience.
4. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated computer skills.
7. Willingness to travel.
8. Demonstrated program planning experience.
9. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
PREFERRED:
1. Master’s Degree.
2. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
3. Demonstrated fluency in Spanish or Southeast Asian languages.
4. Demonstrated ability to use Google Suite (or similar platform).
5. Demonstrated ability to use Brightspace (or similar platform), presentation technology, and student records systems (i.e., Peoplesoft).
6. Demonstrated experience with Starfish.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of a Principal Investigator adhering to established instructions and procedures with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment; work is generally in final form when completed but may be checked for accuracy and compliance with prescribed instructions and procedures.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises and coordinates the work of subordinates providing related research support services.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:
A thorough knowledge of the operation of office systems and software packages utilized for creating, editing and storing of scientific research documents, corresponding graphics and awarded funds; a familiarity with the principles and practices utilized for budget preparation including the ability to predict future financial requirements; a thorough knowledge of general office practices, commercial arithmetic and business English; the ability to research and develop new or modify existing office automation aids required for the successful completion of research projects; the ability to maintain files and records; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates and other employees; the ability to supervise, coordinate and review the work of subordinates assigned to assist; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a two year college including courses in basic accounting, office practice, typing and the operation of automated office equipment and supplemented by courses in engineering or physical/biological sciences; and
EXPERIENCE: Such as may have been gained through: employment in a responsible clerical position involving the performance of office tasks inclusive of complex automatic typing and basic accounting.
OR: any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
