The Hive is the innovation lab at USA for UNHCR. Founded in 2015, The Hive's mission is to engage with the American public to raise awareness about refugees and design solutions that address their needs through technology and the data science process. The Hive team seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as an intern to help us continue to strengthen our identity within the refugee-serving ecosystem. This internship is a 10-week assignment that will provide excellent opportunities for contributing to USA for UNHCR’s mission and vision. The internship is open to undergraduate students who are in the process of completing a degree or equivalent course work in Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Political Science, Business or equivalent coursework and wish to gain exposure to data science, data infrastructure, and machine learning as they can be applied in the non-profit/humanitarian refugee-supporting space. The intern will be expected to work with the Hive team and participate in various programmatic team activities. The intern must embody USA for UNHCR values: Passionate, Data Driven, Transparent, Forward Thinking, Cutting Edge, and Dynamic.
This paid internship opportunity runs from June 3, 2024, through August 9, 2024. Internships do not include room and board. The Intern must be available to commit to the entire 10-week duration of the internship. This is a seasonal hybrid position, with in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and remote work on Monday and Friday, located in our Headquarters Office in Washington, DC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will receive guidance and training from The Hive team, and assist with the completion of research and data related tasks, such as:
• Conducting research on the refugee-serving ecosystem including identifying potential partners and collaborators interested in The Hive as well as potential speakers for The Hive’s Signature Annual Event #Innovate4Refguees that brings together a network of people who want to help address the needs of refugees using technology and data science.
• EDAs (Exploratory data analysis) with a mix of various subtasks: finding and aggregating data, doing analysis and producing output (visualizations, reports, modeling), with the help of coding languages such as Python, SQL or others.
• Helping with data outputs such as automated reports, graphs, charts and tabular data
• Solving and fixing bugs in our internal codebase that supports several analytical and data projects
QUALIFICATIONS
