We are close to completion on our first application (Visual Forester: Stand Designer) This is a tool to help teach stand dynamics to college students and anyone else who wants to learn more about forestry. With a little more time this app will be complete and we want to begin migrating the functionality that makes sense to a... larger forestry application (Visual Forester Pro). The Pro version works very closely with GIS systems and renders larger areas of forest inventories. We can take in all sorts of data and render areas with our massive library of trees and vegetation. The most basic system works with importing data from .csv files. Other systems work directly with GIS attribute data and publicly avalible datasets.
Both products will render 4k images and videos out from camera paths for people to attach them to papers or environmental planning documents.
Currently our most critical role would be for an experienced developer to bring our professional software forward till we get a beta out. We are always looking for ways to import larger areas with more nuanced data sets and more detailed terrains. Currently, our UI is ugly and could use a lot of work. If you are not a UI person, but know someone who is, we would examine the possibility of hiring both of you as a team.
https://youtu.be/cUwVbn0GcYo
Our perfect candidate would have experience with:
GIS file formats and any form of raster/vector data (Very Important)
Unity experience working on professional applications that utilize outside data. (Important)
Experience with the Entities system (Very Helpful)
Strong C# knowledge (Very Important)
Small team experience (Would be nice)
Passing interest in forestry (Not required)
Optimization and Modular Development (Important)
Any ideas about how to increase the quality of our application in any/all ways.
A thorough person who will comment all final code (Dream)
Please take a look at our website: visualforester.com and alpinelis.com to read more about the project and our company.
Below we have included some information that might tell you more about the project.
Our team is currently staffed by two Unity developers, one project manager, and one part time 3d modeler. We are looking to scale up again soon so we will be adding another 3d modeler and hopefully another developer.
Ability to update our project to 2022 Unity, so a basic understanding of what’s different between 2018 and 2022 would be very helpful.
Experience with UI is helpful. The application we have on the website is largely complete so you would get a full redo on the User Interface with VF Pro. (You will have help with this)
Entities experience or a basic understanding of the entities system
Read/Write from outside databases, and Python plugins
Some of the assets we use include:
Vegetation Studio, Easy Roads, River Auto Material, EnviroSky
Terrain from Digital Elevation Model/Texturing from Orthographic Imagery
SAAS model through our website visualforester.com
