Description

This is a full-time academic-year (9 month) visiting instructor/professor position with a two-year appointment beginning August 16, 2023. The successful applicant will be expected to teach the equivalent of 3-4 courses per semester, in Art Education, and work with local schools on field experiences for students in the program. Faculty are required to engage in at least 4 hours per semester of collaboration with teachers in contributing to instruction in K12 classrooms.

Education Requirements

An earned master’s degree by August 1, 2023 in Art Education or a related discipline.

Required Qualifications

(1) Teaching experience in elementary art or secondary art; (2) demonstrated commitment to working and collaborating with culturally, linguistically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse populations; (3) experience in building partnerships with local schools and communities.

Desirable Qualifications

(1) Evidence of effective teaching abilities in teacher education in higher education; (2) licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in Art Education; (3) demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-racist teacher education; (4) experience in design education and/or arts integration; (5) terminal degree in Art Education or related discipline.

About the Department and Art Education

The Department of Teaching and Learning (T & L) at the University of Iowa includes over 35 faculty members and 900 students. The Art Education Program has been a vital part of teacher education and training in the College of Education since 1971. We offer multiple pathways for teaching-artists and classroom teachers to hone their skills and expertise so that they can lead art experiences for children and youth. We host BA and MAT degree programs that lead to K-12 licensure, an MA in Art Education, endorsements in K-8 and 6-12 Art Education, and post-BA and post-MA Licensure options. • Identify potential risk management/liability cases and, after initial investigation, prepare a case summary for Legal Services. At the discretion and direction of legal counsel, the Patient Relations Specialist may continue to serve as the primary contact with complainant to manage a situation where risk is present.
• Identify potential problem areas (i.e., service breakdowns, staff training needs, communication issues, scheduling difficulties, etc.), and contribute to solutions and improvements.
• Document patient/visitor contacts to include patient demographic data, synopsis of contact, actions taken to resolve, and all correspondence with the complainant as required by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Conditions of Participation for Patient Rights.
• Maintain strong working relationships with all departments and divisions of UI Hospitals and Clinics, such as Nursing Services and Patient Care; Patient Financial Services; College of Medicine and Vice President Medical Affairs; Social Services; Legal Services; Joint Office for Compliance; Healthcare Human Resources; Clinical Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement, and others.
• Submit necessary information to Legal Services regarding reimbursement for lost, stolen or damaged personal belongings.
• Partake in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics service recovery program; provide training and ongoing support to units and clinics in responding to patient/visitor dissatisfaction.
