The Verge is an ambitious multimedia effort founded in 2011 to examine how technology will change life in the future for a massive mainstream audience...

The Verge is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Verge and Hot Pod, the preeminent audio industry newsletter, are seeking a reporter to cover the ins and outs of the audio space.

As our Hot Pod reporter, you’ll focus on putting together three newsletters per week, informing subscribers with a mixture of news roundups, scoops, and analysis. We want to keep our readers ahead of the changes in the industry: what companies are springing up, who’s winning the battle for people’s attention, and where all this audio hype is headed. It’ll be up to you to guide them and filter the signal from the noise.

A great Hot Pod reporter will have a sense for not only the pure business stories and the news that matters, but how they affect the livelihoods of the people who work in the industry, whether that be corporate executives, on-air hosts, or indie podcasters. The beat is growing alongside the audio space, so the right reporter will be a self-starter who cares about audio and chronicling the industry’s trajectory, but also finds ways to go deeper than the headlines. What are the readers missing or what should they be thinking about?

Responsibilities include:
• Assembling three Hot Pod issues per week
• Collaborating with our editorial, engagement, and marketing teams on growth strategies for Hot Pod
• Embedding in the podcast industry to find stories and scoops
• Proactively pitch reports and analysis
• Help us maintain our collaborative and ambitious team culture

WHO YOU ARE

Qualifications:
• A self-starter attitude with a hunger to find stories
• Strong writing skills, including the ability to identify compelling angles and develop them effectively
• Knowledge of the audio world helps, but isn’t necessary, so long as the beat is something you’re ready to explore

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We’ve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.

This job is remote. We’re dedicated to the health and wellbeing of all of our employees, and when we reopen, will require everyone who works from one of our offices to be fully-vaccinated against COVID-19.
