We’re looking for a Payroll and Benefit Specialist... who is detail-oriented, proactive, and can work both independently and also in a highly collaborative environment. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will provide support and administration of multi-state payroll, benefits, retirement plans, and more. As a member of the Finance team, you will work with sensitive information as you support day-to-day processes and due diligence, including data reporting, analyses, research, communication, special projects, and compliance.
This is remote position and KCL will currently consider applicants who reside in the following states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin.
In this role, you will:
• Ensure accuracy and completion of payroll transactions
• Administer payroll processing to include updating deductions, pay changes, commission plans/tracking, retirement plan contributions, etc.
• Reconcile and prepare government reporting, including payroll tax returns, ACA compliance, W-2 and W-3 forms, 1095-C, form 5500 and DOL quarterly filings
• Assist with payroll, benefit and tax-related journal entries
• Maintain contractor files and prepares new contractor reporting for states
• Reconcile and prepare 1099 forms
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end reports
• Assist in annual payroll, benefit, unemployment and workers’ compensation audits
• Prepare semi-monthly payroll and benefit reconciliations
• Participate in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes
• Monitor policies and procedures for compliance
• Maintain compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations
• Assist with 401(k) plan communications and complete required compliance data for annual testing
• Develop and document payroll, benefit and accounting processes to strengthen internal controls
• Act as the primary point of contact for employees for payroll-related inquiries
• Maintain employee confidence and protect operations by utilizing discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information
About you:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
• 5-7 years minimum experience in a similar role required
• Advanced Excel skills
• Working knowledge of Salesforce CRM, QuickBooks online, and/or comfortable with learning new technology systems
• General knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations and/or the ability to learn
• Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
• Experience working with a fast-paced and complex company
• Demonstrated history of solving multiple complex operational and accounting challenges
