In addition, Accountants in this class are responsible for accounting tasks involved in posting journal entries, monthly close... processes, preparing, analyzing, interpreting and presenting accounting data; operating, maintaining, and modifying accounting systems as needed; reconciling assigned accounts at period-end and using accounting information to recommend solutions to management's problems and structuring of organizational programs.
Examples of Duties Researches, analyzes, and implements accounting standards and regulations as stipulated by regulatory entities including but not limited to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), among others.
Interprets GASB pronouncements, and updates position papers for the yearend audit.
Utilizes Oracle databases and ERP accounting software to collect data and compile period-end reports are needed.
Apply in depth knowledge of excel usage including Pivot Tables, formulas and/or macros to assist with research and other basic data manipulations as needed.
Posts journal entries and yearend accruals, in addition to reconciling account balances required to support financial reporting.
Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements, and other internal financial reports as needed, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards Performs period end variance analytics as needed Maintains General Ledger and external interface systems required for payroll accounting and financial reporting Assists in the preparation of the Annual Consolidated Financial Report (ACFR) Compiles centrally requested reports and performs variance analytics including comparing current to prior year actuals and current year actuals to budgets.
Serves as a subject matter expert or authority in certain aspects of accounting Identifies accounting problems such as inadequate maintenance of fund controls, inaccurate records and reports, improper methods for document control, and lack of documentary evidence to support performance of regulatory reconciliations.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Provides experience in using the specific procedures of automated systems to find, review, or change accounting data in transaction files, ledgers, accounts, summary reports, and financial statements Drafts simple instructions and job aids to describe internal accounting procedures for the procedure's manual Minimum
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics, or a closely related field Such education must include at least twenty-four (24) semester (36 terms) credits of coursework in accounting and statistics (21 hours in accounting and 3 hours in other closely related fields in business and statistics)
Experience:
Must have a minimum of four years of direct experience in accounting No supervisory experience required but applicant should have demonstratable experience in leading projects or assignments that illustrate leadership capabilities.
Equivalency Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
OTHER PREFERRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) QUALICATIONS:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred Public Accounting/ Auditing background desirable ERP systems' experience in:

Accountant III (TASS)

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer is seeking to fill an Accountant III (TASS) position. The Accountant III primarily performs work as an individual contributor but in limited cases, may include getting work done through others (i.e. supervise subordinates in the performance of work).

Accountants in this class perform professional accounting work requiring the application of accounting standards as stipulated by regulatory bodies like the Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

The typical work includes but is not limited to interpreting accounting standards; compiling and posting journal entries Oracle ERP; participating in the monthly close and reconciliation processes; analyzing and interpreting financial data; preparing financial statements and presenting financial information, maintaining or modifying accounting systems as needed; in addition to using accounting information to recommend solutions to management's problems among others.
• Researches, interprets, analyzes, and applies uniform accounting standards in accordance with regulatory bodies like the (GASB) and (GAAP). Research deliverables include drafting and/or updating technical position papers during the fiscal year-end audit.
• Utilizes the Oracle ERP accounting software and databases to prepare and post journal entries, analyze periodic activities, and prepare internal and external reports as needed.
• Applies in depth knowledge of excel including Pivot Tables and advanced formulas to manipulate data and perform analytical work as needed.
• Reconciles account balances to supporting documents. Investigates unusual activity.
• Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements and other internal financial reports as needed.
• Maintains Oracle ERP General Ledger segments and monitors external interfaces.
• Interacts with external auditors and supports the Annual Consolidated Financial Report (ACFR) fiscal yearend audit.
• Compiles other centrally requested reports and performs variance analytics including comparing current to prior year actuals and current year actuals to budgets.
• Serves as a subject matter expert in certain aspects of accounting.

Education:
