• Travel to various healthcare facilities in the area, operating company owned vehicles
• Gather and complete appropriate paperwork
• Monitor equipment performance and takes the appropriate measures to have problems resolved
• Review and ensure exams are high quality and available for interpretation in a timely fashion.
• Consistently demonstrate effective communication, both written and verbal, with all technologists, staff and management teams
• Performs all duties as assigned or required to ensure efficiency and provide quality patient care.

Candidate Skills / Requirements:
• Certificate or Associate’s degree from an accredited school of radiology
• IEMA certification & ARRT license required
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to work independently
• Ability work in a fast-paced healthcare environment

EDUCATION:
Graduate of a professional academic nursing program. BSN or actively pursuing BSN preferred. Holds current RN Registration or a Limited Permit to practice in the State of New York.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years recent critical care clinical experience in specific patient populations served.

The Laboratory Technologist performs basic, routine and advanced diagnostic procedures for the isolation and identification of microbial pathogens from clinical specimens. In each specialized area, the technologist must maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instrumentation, as well as the physiological conditions affecting test results. In addition, conducts or assists in special projects, evaluates new products and instrumentation and performs quality control measures.

Responsibilities
• Performs and reports assigned analytical tests, including high complexity tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
• Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/unusual results. Documents unacceptable specimens according to appropriate policy. Communicates specimen requirements to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains QA policies and procedures to ensure validity of results. Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols. Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released.
• Maintains a safe and efficient working environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, and monitoring temperatures in accordance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies. Recognizes and troubleshoots malfunctions of advanced technological equipment and initiates corrective action.
• Enters test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized report to be generated for physicians review and interpretation.
• Maintains all records as per the regulatory requirements: card files, patient requisitions, LIS Documentation, statistical data.
• Consults with the Supervisor or the Pathologist, if needed, on all important results, conflicting or out of range (recognized patterns specified in policy) results. Notes inadequate volume and/ or abnormal appearance of sample
• Reviews all Critical Test results by repeat analysis if necessary, and communicates the same to Nursing Staff/ Physician every time. Supervisor/Pathologist is always notified in extreme cases. Enters the details of the Critical Value communication in LIS.
• Assists in Inventory Control to assure adequate supplies (QC, reagents, calibrators and other consumables are available and reagents are stored properly (temperature sensitive). Supplies are dated appropriately when placed in use.
• Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by the Supervisor/ Lab Management.

Qualifications

Education:

B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.

ASCP preferred or NCA certification.

Experience:
• Exerts up to 10-15 lbs of force
• Must be able to work on dead bodies or body parts
• Must meet the general requirements of the Medical Center as defined in personnel policy 13.2
• Maintains a neat and orderly appearance and be punctual in attendance
• Follows the policies of Medical Center
• Works with and handles Biohazard (TB, HIV, Hepatitis, etc.) and toxic chemicals
• Tolerates allowable limit of chemical odor
• Follows written and verbal instruction accurately and with good judgment
• Learns new procedures as required
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in working area
