This position contributes to the appearance of the building by cleaning restrooms, halls, office areas, and grounds.

The shift shares its hours between two of our buildings, working 4 hours at Ridgeview Elementary and 4 hours at Thurston Middle School. The hours are 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m which qualify for swing shift differential pay of an additional 50 cents per hour.

Custodian positions provide important services and basic maintenance to ensure the upkeep, cleanliness and safety of school buildings/grounds for students, staff, and community members. Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications that support our district vision "Every Student a... Graduate Prepared for a Bright and Successful Future":Demonstrate regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy.Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant District Board policies, administrative regulations, and building rules.Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner.Work independently and cooperatively in teams with other staff members and students.Attends staff meetings.Attends in-service and workshop trainings; applying training to instructional responsibilities.Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.Completes appropriate logs, forms and paperwork, as required.Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.Reports issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity etc.Assists or substitutes for other custodial/maintenance personnel, as necessary.Maintains and ensures the upkeep, cleanliness and improvement of all school buildings.Maintains all cleaning equipment, tools and supplies.Unlocks doors and windows, turns on lights and prepares buildings for start of day and/or locks doors and windows, turns off lights and secures buildings at end of day.Cleans and sanitizes areas as assigned (i.e. classrooms, halls, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.Operates and maintains sweepers and other power equipment used in custodial work (buffers, carpet steamer, varnisher, vacuums, and power washer) to ensure they work effectively and safely.Keeps walkways, parking areas, and entrances clean and clear of debris.Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other District functions as assigned, including weekend events.Washes windows, white boards, chalk boards and walls.Cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work, and computer screens.Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.Collects and empties all recycling and waste containers in a safe and sanitary manner.Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking fountains daily.Performs a variety of basic maintenance duties including, but not limited to unplugging sinks, door maintenance, and painting.Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner.Responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
