Why Hearst Magazines...

Hearst Magazines’ portfolio of brands — including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, and Harper’s BAZAAR— inspires, entertains and builds new and bold experiences for an engaged and growing audience across digital, video, social and print, reaching nearly 139 million readers and site visitors each month. With sophisticated content creation, cutting-edge technology and industry-leading data capabilities, we make media and products that move people across all platforms.

We are a global media company that publishes nearly 260 magazine editions and 200 websites around the world and, together, we are reinventing publishing for the 21st century.

Your impact:

The Hearst Magazines Enthusiast Group is looking for a versatile, data-motivated writer to join our commerce team and expand our review and recommendations content on Runner’s World. This role works closely with editors in all departments, from our test team to our news and service department, and should be as comfortable collaborating as they are spearheading new content independently. Runner’s World is the authority in a number of key categories including fitness gear, training equipment, health and wellness, and more, so having a strong interest in our subject matter is a must. You’ll have the opportunity to recommend running gear to over 3 million users per month.

The ideal candidate has about three years of experience writing for an online media company or publisher. They should be skilled at sourcing and recommending products in a highly informative yet entertaining manner, with a knack for using trends and data to optimize content. Our audience is capable and passionate. You should be confident informing them, inspiring them, empowering them, equipping them, and connecting them with the gear, accessories, and resources they need to live the runner lifestyle.

This person will be part of the Enthusiast Group’s Commerce Team in Easton, Pennsylvania, and will have the opportunity to write for our other brands: Popular Mechanics, Bicycling, and Best Products. Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of clips.

What you'll do:
• Write, edit, and update commerce content that responds to a season, trend, project, or other brand goal.
• Support SEO and commerce goals with a flexible mindset and the ability to change course quickly.
• Collaborate with our testing team and staff experts for product suggestions, brand recommendations, insights, and guidance. We have decades of experience at our disposal and we embrace that to guarantee all content is authentic.
• Enhance the user experience through creative layout, clever copy, strategizing with the photo department, and choosing retailers appropriately.
• Create shopping guides that are digestible, shoppable, and highly authoritative. You will evaluate the product landscape, consult in-house experts, analyze research, scrutinize reviews, and ultimately provide our audiences with purchasing advice.
• Identify reliable sources, retailers, experts, and brands. You will be directly influencing what our readers purchase.
• Conduct hands-on reviews of products to increase authority on specific product categories while maintaining journalistic integrity and unbiased buying guides.
• Use Google Analytics and our data management platform to optimize for affiliate revenue.

Who you are:
• You have a minimum of 3 years experience writing for a digital publisher.
• You have a minimum of 1 year creating commerce content.
• You have expertise or a passion for running.
• You have a flexible mindset. We pivot and reprioritize quickly.
• You have a basic understanding of SEO and commerce best practices.
• You are comfortable in a fast-paced digital environment.
• You are a strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs, all the while keeping the individual brand voices in mind.
• You have excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• You can collaborate and foster positive relationships with colleagues.
• You have experience working in a CMS
