Camp Nebagamon is seeking a Rock Climbing Instructor (or Specialist) for their 2023 camp season. At Camp Nebagamon, our campers challenge themselves and try new things every day, and use our outdoor 50' top rope and bouldering rock climbing wall to set and achieve goals. The Rock Climbing Instructor is responsible for providing an engaging and exciting curriculum that helps campers push... themselves to achieve more at our climbing wall, and learn more about the technique and safety associated with rock climbing. The Rock Climbing Specialist's specific responsibilities include daily planning and executing of four hours of rock climbing programming, in coordination with the Program Director, with groups of between 2 and 8 campers at a time. The Rock Climbing Specialist oversees three to four additional staff members who will assist with the education and supervision of campers during instructional time. The Rock Climbing Instructor maintains all equipment and records, such as rope use logs, route setting, climbing safety equipment, etc. Dates for Climbing Wall Instructor are 6/10/2023 to 8/12/2023, including a one-week staff training period and an eight-week camping session. Working at Camp Nebagamon offers a variety of recreational opportunities as well as the chance to be a part of a professional, vibrant camp community. Salary is negotiable based on experience and need, starting at $3,500 for the Summer. Room, board, laundry and travel allowance are provided.
Desired Qualifications
Current American Mountain Guides Association Climbing Wall Instructor certification, or ability to obtain one. Experience rock climbing, including top-rope, climbing and belaying. Outdoor Education background. Experience with designing and planning exciting, engaging, and educating rock climbing curricula. Ability to work as a part of a team and relate to peers. Desire and ability to work with children. Ability to adapt to situations and respond to changing circumstances.
Essential Functions
1. Ability to educate campers of all ages and skill levels in rock climbing environment, safety regulations and emergency procedures.

Specific Responsibilities

Mobile Rock Wall
This new program involves driving a 30-foot mobile rock-climbing wall to various summer camp sites, including Cougar Camp, PAC, Operation Recreation, and other special events. The mobile rock wall program will typically run Monday-Thursday, with some shifts on weekends for special events. Formal rock-climbing experience is not required.
Rock Climbing Clinics
On 4 different weekends throughout the summer, staff will lead a group of 10 ranging from teens to adults. We are searching for skilled and enthusiastic candidates with experience setting anchors, belaying, and teaching others the fundamentals of rock climbing. The first day will be at Alpenglow Park to highlight the new bouldering wall. The second day will include a full day of climbing at Smith Rock State Park. Each session involves a 2-day program on Friday and Saturday.
A typical schedule is Friday 3 - 7:30 pm and Saturday 7am - 3:30 pm.
Training and on-boarding will begin mid-June, with official programs mid-July to end of August. Applicants are encouraged to document their skills and experiences, certifications, as well as their interest and experience working with youth.
A day in the life:
• Supervises participants in outdoor programs, helping to provide for a safe, positive and enjoyable experience.
• Sets up top-rope anchors and belays.

Mobile Rock Wall
This new program involves driving a 30-foot mobile rock-climbing wall to various summer camp sites, including Cougar Camp, PAC, Operation Recreation, and other special events. The mobile rock wall program will typically run Monday-Thursday, with some shifts on weekends for special events. Formal rock-climbing experience is not required.
Rock Climbing Clinics
On 4 different weekends throughout the summer, staff will lead a group of 10 ranging from teens to adults. We are searching for skilled and enthusiastic candidates with experience setting anchors, belaying, and teaching others the fundamentals of rock climbing. The first day will be at Alpenglow Park to highlight the new bouldering wall. The second day will include a full day of climbing at Smith Rock State Park. Each session involves a 2-day program on Friday and Saturday.
A typical schedule is Friday 3 - 7:30 pm and Saturday 7am - 3:30 pm.
Training and on-boarding will begin mid-June, with official programs mid-July to end of August. Applicants are encouraged to document their skills and experiences, certifications, as well as their interest and experience working with youth.

The Cliffs at LIC is seeking dependable + motivated climbing coaches who enjoy teaching rock climbing to kids of all ages. Summer Programs Climbing Coach positions run June-August with the potential to stay on as staff through the school year.
Summer Climbing Coaches will run our weekly day camps for kids ages 6+ and be responsible for choosing daily programming, leading games + activities, teaching foundational rock climbing skills, and managing safety procedures.
• Summer Climbing Coaches will be expected to be available for at least 3 days each week and scheduled for 20-32 hours Monday-Friday, between 8:30AM-3:30 PM.
• Required job training will be held at facility during the following dates: TBD
• Camp sessions begin mid June with sessions running June 19-August 25. Full day + part day shifts available.
• Coaches are expected to work at least 6 weeks of the summer with priority given to applicants with the highest availability.
Required Skills and Experience
• Demonstrated passion for the sport of climbing.
• Should feel comfortable working with youth athletes in small and large group settings.
• Have experience leading “play-ground” style games or activities to youth ages 6-12.
