Rochester Regional’s Chemical Dependency Program is the region’s largest. We strive to provide safe, evidence-based, person centered treatment to individuals struggling with substance use. As an attending physician in the department, you will meet regularly with a team of 15-20 providers, including 5 attending physicians boarded in addiction medicine. Our team supports 4 residential addictions programs across the region.
The physician will provide clinical oversight of medical services and have regular collaboration with the therapy teams to help patients meet their treatment goals.
The physician must be able to manage both typical ambulatory medical issues, as well as treat and stabilize chemical dependency issues. The physician both provides withdrawal support to help clients stop substance use safely, and helps transition individuals to MAT (medication assisted treatment). Clinical experience in the areas of withdrawal management and buprenorphine is required. The physician will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which will include therapists, social workers, nurses and behavioral health techs.
The attending physician serves as a primary support for a full time APP in supporting the unit. The physician will ideally possess a willingness and desire to teach medical students and residents as RRH grows it’s educational opportunities.
The Behavioral Health Network at Rochester Regional health is the region’s largest and most comprehensive behavioral health service provider offering outpatient, inpatient chemical dependency emergency and primary care consultative services.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review standard UM sources for potential inpatient medical necessity denials. Review patient class in the event manager, assist with LOC determination retrospectively, and changes patient class as it relates to the Provider order for billing purposes.
• Meet all appeal deadlines for all payers. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
• Prepare the UM review findings, initiate and 1st, 2nd, and/or arbitration appeals as needed. Document in all areas that an appeal has been initiated or no appeal is necessary per UM reviews.
• Track and monitor all denials, appeals, arbitration responses to payers/audits.
• Participates in periodic denial meetings with Physician Advisors to review the denials that do not meet InterQual and/or CMS guidelines for his/her recommendation regarding appeal options.
• Manages confidential information in accordance with RRH policy and procedures.
• Retrospectively communicates clinical information to payers, severity of illness, and intensity of service and plan of care.
• Maintains accountability to hospital, state, and federal regulations, and professional standards. Initiates alternate level of care determinations in compliance with regulatory and contractual agreements.
• Actively participates in Education sessions.
• Actively participates in analysis of utilization and quality trends and makes recommendations to management on opportunities for improvement.
• Using nationally recognized standards of care and guidelines.
• Prioritizes multiple projects and tasks. Be able to work independently with minimum direction.
