Reuters is looking for a talented video journalist to spearhead video coverage from North America in the role of Duty News Editor. You will be an experienced visuals journalist who has a track record running diverse news teams covering major stories. This is a full-time role that demands flexibility to work unpredictable hours and weekends and will report to the North America News Editor for Video.

About The Role

As the Duty News Editor, you will:
• Run video news gathering teams across the North America region and help drive original storytelling
• Have a keen eye for visual storytelling and the ability to provide video coverage within tight deadlines
• Deputise for the North America Video Editor
• Coordinate daily news coverage with the News Editor for Video and work closely with U.S. team and London production desks
• React quickly to breaking news offering strong coverage across all platforms, ability to juggle multiple lives and coverage priorities
• Produce tight, well-written accurate news copy to deadline
• Pitch story ideas which work well for digital and broadcast platforms
• Lead journalistic teams that cover major news events, starting from the planning phase through to field work
• Represent visuals internally and externally, building a strong relationship with local and international clients
• Proactively source user-generated content and other 3rd party material, especially for breaking news
• Uphold Reuters Trust Principles of independence, integrity and freedom from bias

About You

To be our Duty News Editor, you will likely have:
• Solid editorial experience in managing a broadcast, agency or digital newsroom
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Excellent news judgment, with a clear vision of what makes a compelling visual story
• Ability to build and develop strong news gathering teams
• Willingness to travel regionally and internationally at short notice, including to hostile environments
• Thorough understanding of the latest digital video technologies for filming, editing, transmitting and sharing video
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships quickly
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Ability to drive speed and accuracy across the news file
