edits content alongside in-house Associate Shopping Editors and a team of freelancers to maximize revenue from and traffic to affiliate content on Readers Digest With a strong background in service journalism and experience writing for lifestyle brands the Shopping Editor will pitch write edit and assign shopping content for multiple distribution channels including search newsletters social and partners This individual will also assist with behind-the-scenes projects like reporting and data organization Understanding how to plan content and follow affiliate and SEO best practices is key About you Youre a flexible writer and editor with the organizational skills and attention to detail needed to produce quality on-brand shopping content that will succeed across various channels You About The Role
Reporting to the Content Director, the Senior Editor, Birds & Blooms, serves as the editorial lead for Birds & Blooms’ flagship magazine and second publication, Birds & Blooms Extra. The Senior Editor plays a vital role in shaping the content and editorial direction of our magazine and digital content.

About You
You are a cross-functional editor and writer with an understanding of turning nature trends into engaging stories that are on-brand and appropriate for all our content channels. You blend confidence and creativity with the ability to be organized yet nimble and open to change. Driven by deadlines with strong time-management skills, you can work through a high volume of stories efficiently, effectively and on time, enabling the team to meet its ambitious production goals.

Your day-to-day:
• In collaboration with the Content Director, digital and art teams, lead the editorial planning and creative execution of content for the brand
• Assign freelance writing assignments and manage the workload of an editor. Edit and proofread the work of freelance writers and team members, according to brand guidelines
• Employ your creative skills as a writer and editor, writing engaging coverlines, copy and headlines, and creating engaging layers for stories that enhance reader service
• Lead and participate in brainstorming sessions for the magazine, as well as other Birds & Blooms editorial and digital products
• Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all project deadlines and goals are met
• Keep a close watch on bird, garden and outdoor lifestyle trends and track the competition
• Manage reader submissions, contribute to and engage with our field editor group, and set up, lead and moderate photo and video contests
• Repackage print content for use on Birdsandblooms.com using digital tools such as WordPress

You have:
• A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related field
• 5 years proven writing, editing and proofreading skills, including demonstrated magazine leadership
• Experience with content production tools such as InCopy, as well as analytics reports from platforms such as Adobe Analytics, SEM Rush and Google Trends to inform editorial decisions
• A keen familiarity with, and interest in, the birding, gardening and nature spaces
• An ability to openly collaborate, verbally communicate and accept constructive feedback from staff at all levels
• A knack for organizing and managing multiple projects at one time, consistently meeting deadlines and catching all the details
• Ability to think creatively on your feet, set priorities and quickly change course as data informs
• An awareness about your role in the larger part of the Home & Garden group and work for the success of the team

As an Associate Food Editor for Taste of Home, you are key to our recipe publishing strategy. Reporting to the Deputy Editor, you use your culinary knowledge and sharp editorial eye to publish engaging, on-brand recipe content to help us reach our lofty traffic and production goals. You are organized, nimble and have a keen interest in the world of cooking. This role will be available on or around July 1, 2023.

About you:

You are a whip-smart editor who thrives on deadlines. You balance your culinary experience with outstanding attention to detail. You are organized, eager to collaborate across teams, and appreciate the value of giving feedback to help others grow. You are comfortable merging fun turns of phrase with SEO-driven formats to ensure that what we are creating delivers for the audience and helps Taste of Home meet our key content-creation and traffic targets. At home, you love to cook and track what is happening in the food world.

Your day-to-day:
• You review and edit SEO-driven recipe content according to daily publishing goals, adhering to AP and house style
• You mentor writers by sharing culinary knowledge and editing tips, regularly providing feedback
• You support editorial strategy with a full understanding of editorial integrity, brand voice, shareability and engagement, and knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) principles and social networks
• You tackle assignments with daily direction from the Deputy Editor and work on multiple initiatives simultaneously

You have:
• 3+ years of full-time experience writing and editing digital food content
• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, media, marketing or a related field. Professional culinary experience or degree a plus
• Solid knowledge and understanding of the digital landscape, particularly SEO strategy and performance metrics
• Proven knowledge of SEO keyword research tools, a CMS (Content Management System) such as WordPress, a project database such as Airtable, basic HTML, Microsoft Excel, as well as AP style
• Keen organization skills, consistently meeting deadlines and catching all the details
• Effective communication skills: comfortable accepting and giving constructive feedback, with a commitment to supporting an evolving, dynamic team
