Position Summary:

The Associate Dean, in collaboration with the Dean and Vice President, provides strategic leadership and promotes excellence in all phases of the college/school's activities. The Associate Dean, in partnership with the Academic Chairs and Assistant Dean, supports faculty growth and development in teaching, scholarship, and professional activities while ensuring that the college/school maintains accreditation through high academic standards. The Associate Dean serves in the role of the Dean, when requested.

Responsible for the oversight & leadership of all the programs and activities within their scope with an emphasis on program innovation and student persistence. Focused on strategy to ensure the school meets its academic and financial goals, including but not limited to student & faculty persistence, program quality & growth, and creating a supportive environment which provides students a clear path to graduation; and effect growth by participating in intra school and interdisciplinary activities and initiatives. Selects, hires, manages performance, and supports Academic Department Chairs, Program Chairs, and Chairs of Special Projects. This will include the training and orientation of new chairs (regardless of role), supporting chairs in the management of their faculty and programs, and providing opportunities for chair and faculty professional development. Collaborates with curriculum to assess program needs and development of courses.

Required Qualifications:
• A Master's degree in a public safety or legal studies field is required (e.g., criminal justice, public safety, legal studies, fire science, emergency management, public administration, sociology, forensic psychology). Preference will be given to candidates with a Doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to the School of Social and Behavioral Science (PhD, DBA, JD or related terminal degree).
• At least 7 years of experience in Higher Education is required.
• 3 or more years of experience teaching at the postsecondary level is required, with a history of demonstrated leadership roles in an educational or professional setting. 5 or more years of experience teaching at the postsecondary level is preferred.
• Experience teaching adult learners in fully online programs and understanding of online andragogy.
• Demonstrated experience with programmatic accreditation within a public safety or legal studies field.

Required skills and abilities:
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment, across diverse teams, departments and schools.
• Ability to work effectively and independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
• Strong knowledge of financial implications related to scheduling and managing people and projects.
• Able to effectively communicate with different levels of the organization.
• Extensive knowledge of curriculum development and academic policy; possesses required knowledge of best practices in higher education pedagogy.
• Thinks strategically, effectively analyzing data and implementing data-informed, student-centered decisions.
