This role has two primary responsibilities...
First, you’d drive the strategy and execution of Poynter’s program management practices. That means you’d design and implement new processes to create a consistently excellent participant experience in managing the logistics and technical delivery of hybrid, virtual, and in-person programs. You’d lead an ambitious and collaborative team of producers and project managers. You’d also serve as a lead “super user” for participant experience in our learning management system and Poynter learning tools.
Second, you’d make sure the Poynter experience is state-of-the-art in terms of how we manage our programs and engage with participants. You’d help us develop new instructional design practices, and lead improvements to existing systems.
You’d join a creative, collaborative, mission-driven team at The Poynter Institute, a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that has long represented the gold standard for the professional development of journalists. We help journalists improve their craft, commit to the highest ethical practices, hone career ambitions, and develop newsroom strategies. In addition to our training and development programs, Poynter is also home to The Craig Newmark Center for Ethics and Leadership, The International Fact-Checking Network, and our media literacy program, MediaWise.

You probably think of PolitiFact as the website that fact-checks politicians and rates their claims using the Truth-O-Meter on PolitiFact.com. But we also have built a sizable business working with social media companies to help fact-check claims and posts online, so that their platforms highlight more accurate... content.
The Assistant Editor of Research will staff fact-checking requests that come from the tech platforms. We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, has a background in journalism, and has experience managing a team of reporters/researchers.
The Assistant Editor also would be asked to help with our public-facing fact-checking — line editing fact-checks of the day’s news and follow our established procedures for quality control.
Candidates must have excellent judgment and embrace PolitiFact’s core values of accuracy, independence, transparency, and fairness. (Read PolitiFact’s “The Principles of the Truth-O-Meter” for more details.)
This is a one-year project-funded full-time position. This position is eligible for remote employment.
