THE ROLE

The duties of the Library Aide will include:

Performing a wide variety of basic and routine clerical duties in facilitating National Library Services

Providing outreach to CTLAB public library hubs, connecting CTLAB users with CTLAB services and resources

Assisting the CTLAB director with other outreach efforts aimed at expanding the CTLAB patron base and CTLAB programming offerings

Supporting CTLAB patrons and community partners in the use of CTLAB equipment and services

Assisting with library circulation, and serving as a point of contact between patrons and the library

Providing outreach to community partners

Leading one-on-one and group training sessions

Handling public library circulation duties

Fulfilling a variety of basic clerical duties and use of an integrated circulation system

Perform related duties as required

ABOUT US

The mission of the CSL is to preserve and make accessible Connecticut’s history and heritage and to advance the development of library services statewide.The CSL is an Executive Branch agency of the State of Connecticut. We provide a variety of library, information, archival, public records, museum, and administrative services for citizens of Connecticut, as well as for the employees and officials of all three branches of State government. The State Library also serves students, researchers, public libraries and town governments throughout the state. In addition, the State Library directs a program of statewide library development and administers the Library Services and Technology Act state grant.

CTLAB is a network library of the Library of Congress’ National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS). CTLAB lends books and magazines in audio and braille formats, for free, to any Connecticut resident who is unable to read regular print due to a visual, reading, or physical disability.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the State Library, this class is accountable for performing a full range of basic tasks in providing library services to the public.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs a wide variety of basic routine clerical duties in facilitating library services; sorts, stacks, shifts and shelves books, periodicals and other library materials; pulls material from shelves; inspects materials for damage; cleans and/or re-houses various types of library material; maintains books including jacketing, marking, labeling and repairing; prepares library materials for issuance to patrons or other addresses; files various types of library material including microfiche, microfilm, etc.; photocopies as instructed; may transport books, material etc.; may use computers; may log material; may lift books; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow oral and written instructions; basic interpersonal skills; ability to perform basic clerical tasks such as sorting, alphabetizing and numeric coding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience as a library paraprofessional in a public or special library

The L.W. Tyree Library of Santa Fe College seeks a visionary, experienced director to lead the library and serve as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team. The Tyree Library was the 2015 Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) national award winner for Excellence in Academic Libraries, chosen “for its innovation and passion for distance instruction, financial literacy, and community…evidenced within their model information literacy initiative…and commitment to delivering on campus programming.” The Tyree Library serves all members of the college community and also houses the college’s comprehensive Learning Commons. The director is responsible for leadership, management, and supervision of library operations on the Northwest Campus, the college’s educational centers, and online. The director must exhibit a strong commitment to the library profession, as well as a demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in library and information science, academic research, publishing, copyright, and open access initiatives.

The library director reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a member of the division’s leadership team, collaborating with college stakeholders to advance student learning, retention, and success. The position provides leadership that motivates staff to perform at their highest level and develops a teamwork environment. The director is expected to evaluate program offerings and staff performance, providing leadership to enhance both. The successful candidate must have a broad understanding of operations and concepts in public and technical services, must demonstrate strong managerial, organizational, and planning skills (including budgetary skills), effective working relationships with all library users, including students and staff in the Learning Commons, and the ability to lead the library to adapt to new and emerging technology.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Provide vision, leadership, planning, management and supervision of library services, courses, and activities.

• Oversee personnel, budgets, collection development, reference/instruction/user policies, long-term program review, state reporting, assessment, and external accreditation preparation.

• Direct library faculty in the development, implementation, and assessment of information literacy instruction; oversee communication with faculty across the college to integrate the college’s information literacy outcome across academic disciplines.

• In coordination with other stakeholders, provide leadership for the maintenance, safety, and security of the building.

• Collaborate with the Director of the Learning Commons to recommend improvements that will advance service to students, staff, and the college community.

• Take initiative to integrate the library in the day-to-day fabric of the college.

• Promote the SF library and its activities, and conduct outreach to faculty and library users.

• Function as the SF library representative and collaborate with library administrators from the University of Florida, the Alachua County Library District, and the Bradford County Public Library.

• Represent SF as a voting member of Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC) and other statewide and college committees, as appropriate and assigned.

• Support the professional development of library staff through participation in state-level and other appropriate activities.

• Collaborate with the Director and the staff of the Learning Commons to provide comprehensive access to corequisite academic and student development support services.

• Collaborate with SF academic department chairs regarding library services.

• Support multicultural engagement and the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the library and college.

• Perform staff duties assigned by the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, as needed.

Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program plus at least five (5) years of library experience with increasing responsibility; administrative experience.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Experience in higher education, especially in a community college setting, is preferred, as is experience working in a state education system or consortia. Knowledge of librarians’ roles in instruction, both online and in-person. Experience mentoring, strong facilitation skills, experience negotiating with vendors and suppliers; and experience administering grants.

Current Opening

The Director of Library Services will supervise and manage all aspects of library services and instruction. Qualifications

Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution and a minimum of five (5) years’ applicable experience in progressively more responsible positions required. Knowledge of emerging trends in information technology and library technology is essential to this position. Experience with assessment, project management, and grant writing is also desired.
