Job Description

The Director of Education develops and oversees all public programming for the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid, Oklahoma.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations:
• Develop, oversee, and implement public programs and events at the Heritage Center that help us tell the many stories that make up northwestern Oklahoma
• Develop, oversee, and implement educational programs that meet the appropriate curriculum standards for all ages
• Develop, oversee, and implement living history programs that bring to life the Humphrey Heritage Village.
• Develop, oversee, and implement outreach programs for schools and community groups in the region
• Work collaboratively in the development of both permanent and temporary exhibits, by developing educational components that supplement and enhance the visitors experience
• Administer the recruitment, training, operation of the Heritage Centers volunteer program
• Write and maintain grants necessary to help fund public programs
• Cultivate a positive and professional relationship with the school districts in the region, and actively recruiting them to participate in our programs
• Be a consummate professional and an industry leader, to help maintain the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Centers standing as one of Oklahomas premier history museums

Education and Experience

Education:
• Associate or Bachelor Degree and licensure/certification in discipline required (technical program/non-transfer classes)
• Master's Degree in discipline or related area or Master's Degree with 18 hours in discipline required (transfer classes)

Work Experience:
• Must have educational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning Commission's publication on Determining Qualified Faculty, and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program.
• Programs with discipline-specific external accreditation may have more stringent training and experience requirements.

Skills, Knowledge,Abilities Required:
• Teaching Competence - Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
• Communication skills - Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English. Requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
• Computer skills - Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and Internet.
• Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.

Instructional Delivery and Assessment:
• Develop year-long Oklahoma standards-based unit plans and lesson plans that meet all scholars’ learning needs.
• Use assessment data to modify short and long-term plans in order to promote all scholars ’academic performance.
• Embrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of constant improvement.

Academic and Cultural Support
• Collaborate with content and grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with scholars and families based on trust and respect.
• Participate in the daily functions of the school such as morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties.
• Attend school events such as staff meetings, open houses, back to school nights, parent orientations, parent-teacher conferences, PTO events and various other school events.
• Develop individualized learning plans for students and communicate these plans to families in parent meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
• Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate with required certification for subject and level assigned, if applicable*
