We have a rare vacancy for Leader of the Arrangement &Description Team. The A&D Leader is a key role responsible for managing the team processing new and backlog archival collections across all formats, from manuscript and photographs, audiovisual material, to art, ephemera and born-digital content. The A&D Leader sets processing goals and priorities for the team, supervises projects, and is responsible for the virtual team managing our collections management system Tiaki (using the KE EMu software). The A&D Leader is responsible for ensuring that processing is standards driven, that good guidelines for description and authority control are maintained, and that descriptive metadata is sharable and resuable. The A&D Leader is also a member of the Research Collections group, and the Turnbull Library Leadership team and contributes to strategic thinking, planning and management of the Library.

This is an exciting time to join the Turnbull Library’s Research Collections group. Along with the recently formed Acquisitions Services team, the Curatorial team, and the Digital Collections and Collection Care teams, the A&D team will be key to updates to the Library’s management of collections through their lifecycle from acquisition to discovery and access. This work will be particularly important as we develop closer working relationships with our colleagues at Archives New Zealand and Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision, through the Tāhuhu Work Programme

To be successful in the role you will have:
• The talent to communicate effectively with wide-ranging audiences and communities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and engagement with archival and library descriptive practices and standards. You will have the knowledge and confidence to communicate and lead in this area.
• Understanding of discovery tools, metadata standards, and collections management systems.
• Experience working with documentary heritage collections in a Library, Archives or similar organisation and demonstrated understanding of the need for responsible stewardship of collections, extensible processing practices, and inclusive and reparative description.
• The ability to build, lead and manage a team that works together creatively, collaboratively, and effectively, promoting a culture of diversity, equity and inclusiveness within the Library and across the Department
