The Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute announces a search for a Director of Neuropsychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology. The Department is one of four departments within the Neurological Institute (the other three are the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation). A new Center of Neuropsychiatry will be established to complement the existing Centers of Adult Behavioral Health, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Alcohol and Drug Recovery that fold under the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology.

This Endowed Chair leadership position in Neuropsychiatry will guide and mentor the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology in endeavors that transcend clinical and research activities with key Neurological Institutes stakeholders, including Center for Brain Health, Epilepsy Center, Multiple Sclerosis Center, Center for Comprehensive Pain Recovery, and Center for Neurological Restoration (Movement Disorders). Advanced behavioral health therapies, including neuromodulation, will fall under the purview of this position. The access to cutting edge electrophysiology, imaging, and genomics expertise within the Neurological Institute will set the foundation for exciting interdisciplinary care and discovery. In addition, this leader will be instrumental in recruitment of top clinician scientists that will be part of the new, state of the art, 1 million square foot, Neurological Institute building, to be completed in 2026.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology supports a variety of faculty career tracks, including NIH supported clinician researchers, clinician scholars, clinician educators, and master clinicians. The Department maintains nationally recognized programs in virtually all areas of psychiatry and psychology, including research on DBS, TMS, ECT, lithium, ketamine and now psychedelics. Department personnel have been highly productive in running national multi-center trials and directing multiple PCORI-funded projects, having been awarded more than $30 million in research funding in the last seven years.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology resides on the Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, as well as regionally in Northeast Ohio, with more than 250 psychiatric inpatient beds spread across five regional hospitals and outpatient clinics located at 10 regional multi-specialty outpatient centers. Currently there are approximately 100 psychiatry and psychology faculty who have primary or joint appointments in the department as well as 30+ Advanced Practice Providers and 20+ social workers, making the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology the largest department within the Neurological Institute. There is also a significant outpatient expansion goal to recruit a minimum of 45 clinicians over the next 5 years. The Department has a robust Adult Psychiatry residency program, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry fellowship and Health Psychology fellowship. In addition, there is a new city wide Addiction Psychiatry fellowship starting in July 2023.

This position represents an outstanding leadership opportunity where the ideal candidate will be a leader recognized nationally for his/her experience and accomplishments in building and leading neuropsychiatry programs. The candidate may additionally qualify for an open Vice Chair of Research position within the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, meeting the criteria for research implementation, mentorship, and extramural funding. It will be paramount that the individual possess the skills to collaboratively promote neuropsychiatry excellence within a complex and dynamic system. The Director will need to work closely with the Chair of the Neurological Institute, the Chair and Vice Chairs of Psychiatry and Psychology, the Vice Chair of Research of the Neurological Institute, and the directors of all disease-based Centers in the Neurological Institute. In addition, the candidate will be expected to closely collaborate with the Neurological Institute’s current Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry fellowship.

For physician candidates, board certification in psychiatry by the ABPN or equivalent is required. We also welcome the interest from PhD candidates with a proven track in research. The position includes appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
