Intrepid Studios is looking for a highly detailed Technical Writer to join our team of talented developers and help bring the expansive MMO, Ashes of Creation, to life. This is a great opportunity to partner with talented game veterans to craft a unique MMORPG that helps bring people together.
If you are a self-driven, passionate word smith who is looking for a highly collaborative and creative... environment, then this position is for you!
Responsibilities:
• Determine the needs of end users for technical documentation
• Collaborate with our engineering teams to translate their code into usable documentation complete with detailed explanations and code samples
• Organize and audit the documentation library to keep information relevant over time
• Establish standards, style guides, and best practices for content across platforms and media
• Determine and select appropriate medium for message/audience, such as manuals or video tutorials
• Write and enhance user and developer guides, including reference materials, tutorials, and API documentation for other groups of engineers and content creators within Intrepid Studios
• Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers and develop new templates or document types to meet the evolving needs of the company
• Provide structure and support for developers writing technical documentation and promote good documentation habits
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience writing technical software documentation
• 3+ years of experience creating API, SDK, or other engineering-focused documentation
• Strong foundation with programming languages, API designs, and software concepts, terminology, and acronyms
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Solid working knowledge of Confluence and JIRA
• Prior experience working in a software development environment
• Familiarity with software development life cycle and Agile processes
• Experience with diagramming tools, such as Visio or draw.io
• Proven ability to learn new systems and develop product expertise quickly
Additional Considerations (Pluses):
• BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
• Understanding of source code including C/C++, Python, Golang, Javascript, HTML5, and CSS
• Experience with XML and UML diagrams
• Prior experience with open-source licensing and associated documentation requirements
• Passion for playing games and working in the game development industry.
