The Chief Academic Strategy Officer ( CASO ) is part of the academic affairs leadership team and assists in Office of the Provost operations. Areas of responsibility include developing and addressing academic strategy in the following: addressing interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary curricular programming, nurturing curricular delivery mechanisms, crafting the university’s future research agenda, managing academic-related data, and addressing accreditation/improvement and systematizing the processes therein. The CASO oversees provost fellows, assessment and accreditation, and institutional research. The CASO also advises the provost on tenure and promotion applications, provides oversight of academic integrity-based issues and student appeals and serves as a liaison to Faculty Senate.

The CASO must be highly collaborative; forward-thinking, action-oriented and service-minded as well as being focused on institutional culture, performance, and student success via interfaces with faculty, staff, students, and external partners. The CASO must be a dreamer and a doer.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A doctoral degree is required.

Experience: Progressively responsible and successful academic leadership. A record of success in teaching, research and service along with curriculum development and delivery. Practice in strategic planning and execution, record of change management and grounding in data use and insights for data-informed decision-making. Experience in addressing strategies for curricular offerings and varying types of modalities.

Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability, including capability to work effectively and collegially with University administrators, faculty, staff and students. Outstanding communication skills along with an eye toward critical analysis and use of digital tools. Experience with personnel management and inclusion and engagement skills in the workplace.

Other: A demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive university mission and public affairs. An understanding of federal and state legislation and compliance issues that affect personnel issues and the delivery of quality educational programming and services.

Ensures that KSMU is in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations regarding broadcast operations at all times, thus protecting the license and financial resources of the station by reviewing the daily operations log for proper transmitter operation, conducting and reviewing tower light checks, ensuring proper logging procedures and compliance with weather emergency protocols.

7. Produces sound-rich audio stories for broadcast on KSMU, with proficiency in all elements of the audio production process.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Electronic Media, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: At least one year of professional work experience in broadcasting is required. Professional news reporting experience is preferred. On-air announcing experience during drive time programming is preferred. Professional work experience with audio editing and broadcast automation systems is preferred.

Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The ability to operate audio broadcast equipment and utilize audio editing software is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, supervision, and project/program development is required. Experience in process analysis/mapping and grant management is preferred.

Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, computer application skills, and the ability to analyze and compile technical and statistical data are required. The ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively with client organizations is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Other: Frequent day travel on a regular basis is required and will include an occasional overnight stay. Must have a driver’s license.

This is a grant funded position and continuation of this position is dependent on ongoing grant funding.
