The Director of Inclusion and Belonging is responsible for providing vision, leadership and direction for the Office of Engagement and Inclusion as a division of Student Affairs in relationship to the services it provides to historically underrepresented and marginalized students. Responsible for transforming and strengthening current policies, procedures and structures of the unit to promote accountability for a wide range of student centric activities (e.g., community building, inclusion initiatives) which encompass: providing direction and supervision for multicultural programming, student advocacy, peer mentoring, developing and implementing programming and services aimed at shaping the understanding of and appreciation for diversity; working to enhance the campus climate for diversity and inclusion; and providing support in order to engage and retain student populations who have been historically underrepresented and marginalized, due to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, religion, ability, citizenship or sexual orientation.

The Director will work with the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs to develop and implement staff training related to these efforts. Additionally, the director serves as a student conduct administrator as needed. As a staff member in the Division of Student Affairs (DSA), the Director is expected to undertake all responsibilities in a manner that reflects the Catholic, Jesuit mission of the University as well as the principles of student development theory.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide leadership, vision, and direction for diversity initiatives, normalizing the development and attainment of Office of Engagement and Inclusion goals, and adopting strategic improvements.
• Work with divisional leadership to develop and implement a plan to offer students support from enrollment through graduation.
• Create inclusive spaces and practices and supporting recruitment of a diverse community centered around respect, empathy, acceptance, and equity.
• Develop and implement staff training related to support efforts for underrepresented students.
• Foster an inclusive and equitable community and culture that values a diversity of lived experiences, thoughts, and expertise, recognizing the importance of these connections to helping individuals flourish and supporting the robust collaborations needed to solve the grand challenges of today and tomorrow as it pertains to inclusion and belonging.
• Responsible for transforming and strengthening current policies, procedures, and structures of the unit to promote accountability for a wide range of student centric activities
• Leads and represents the Office of Engagement and Inclusion in the day-to-day operations of the unit, ensuring safety of students, consistency of practice and maintenance of optimum service levels.
• Responsible for hiring, supervising, performance management, and mentoring professional staff of the Office of Engagement and Inclusion.
• Multicultural Education: Leads DSA in the design and implementation of cultural competency programs for staff, students, and student organizations.
• Leads the Office of Engagement and Inclusion to cultivate a sense of belonging and community, identity development and allyship for students from historically marginalized and/or underrepresented populations.
• Leads the staff in encouraging and challenging all students, including majority students, to i inquire about the construction of marginalized identities and create active learning environments that enhance their awareness and exploration of why and how social identities inform cultural and communal development.
• Provides leadership for multicultural pre-orientation program Ready to Inspire Success and Excellence (RISE).
• Mentors, advocates, and supports student leaders and organizations as they engage multicultural education and inclusion programming initiatives consistent with the unit’s mission.
• Assesses the effectiveness, measure progress, and establish priorities for all areas of responsibility while assisting staff members that encourage belonging and community, identity development and allyship.
• Coordinates programming, advocacy, and mentoring for the Hispanic/Latinx student c community.
• Consults with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Student Development and Academic Affairs units to support recruitment and retention for underrepresented groups.
• Responsible for leading the Department of Student Affairs in maximizing its use of cultural competencies and measuring student involvement and co-curricular learning.
• Serve as a university conduct administrator while also advising student conduct hearing boards as requested.
• Extend the Office of Engagement and Inclusion expertise to the Department of Student Affairs and institutional committees.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Master’s degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 6 years post-master’s degree experience in the administration of college student programs with diverse student populations in higher education, as well as experience with diversity and inclusion programming, including three (3) years supervisory experience with professionals.
• Strong working knowledge of higher education diversity, social justice, and inclusion best practices.
• Excellent track record of facilitating dialogues around social change.
• Evidence of strong problem resolution experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Commitment to, knowledge of and experiences with multicultural education and community service programming, leadership development, and student activities; and values compatible with and supportive of Marquette’s mission as a culturally diverse, Catholic, Jesuit University.
• Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience in, serving diverse student populations in higher education, and a proven track record of developing and sustaining effective programs with learning outcomes, the integration of in and out of classroom collaborations with faculty and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide effective supervision of others.
• Demonstrate effective leadership abilities.
