to excel in their future professional careers. The College of Law has signature strengths in the cross-disciplinary
study of law, including Law and Social Science, with particular emphasis on Empirical Legal Studies; Law and
Technology, capitalizing on the tradition of the Urbana campus in computer science and engineering and its strength
in cutting-edge innovation; and Law and Finance, building on the talents of a preeminent bankruptcy faculty as well
as nationally recognized departments of finance and accounting. Continuing its proud tradition of training lawyers,
government officials, and legal educators, College
of Law has a robust curriculum, and has launched four new clinics in the last
five years which include, Immigration Clinic, Medical Legal Partnership Clinic,
Veterans Legal Clinic and launching Fall 2023, First Amendment Clinic. A new center, the Kimball R. and Karen Gatsis Anderson Center for Advocacy and
Professionalism was established in 2021.

Successful candidates will bring (a) a demonstrated track record of achievement as a strong and collaborative leader
and administrator, providing evidence of a capacity to lead Illinois Law; (b) sound, data-driven, and transparent
decision making as it relates to strategic growth; (c) demonstrated ability to partner effectively with faculty and

The position of Dean of the College of Law reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost and is a

We're looking for two versatile writing and editing professionals to contribute strongly in our newly restructured unit. These positions will play an essential and significant role in telling the Illinois story through a variety of content mediums-news releases, web stories, event communications, reports, etc. And these individuals will work fluidly to support and assist all teams across the unit to write and edit content that is strategic, engaging, accurate, consistent and aligned with university style and brand standards. These positions will help shape storytelling and play an integral role in developing content that moves the university forward.

Job Summary Responsible for writing and editing copy and content to advance the university and to support all areas of the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing.

Duties & Responsibilities

Editing and fact checking
• Provide editing services for news releases, massmails, homepage stories, reports, slide decks, print materials, social media, event communications, marketing materials, etc.
• Ensure copy is error-free and factually accurate.
• Ensure copy is aligned with appropriate style guide (AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style, etc.)
• Ensure materials are aligned with the university and unit style and brand guidelines.
• Ensure materials meet accessibility standards.
Writing and content creation
• Act as Illinois in the News writer, compiling stories and sending out daily emails.
• Responsible for writing news releases about the university, including enrollment numbers, university events, awards, initiatives, leadership announcements, etc.
• Responsible for compiling and distributing monthly Media Citations.
• Provide writing support for the university's brand rollout and implementation.
• Provide additional writing capacity for news releases, massmails, homepage stories, reports, slide decks, print materials, social media, event communications, marketing materials, etc. as needed.
• Act as additional writing support for Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost.Act as additional writing support for Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Operations.
• Responsible for writing additional content to advance the university as determined by Director of Strategy and Messaging.
Media relations
• Assist with media relations in partnership with Director of Strategy and Messaging and Associate Chancellor for Public Affairs.
• Support news writers by assisting with media relations to advance the university's research reputation.
• Support Senior Director of Constituent Engagement by assisting with media relations to advance the university's reputation in Chicago.
• Assist with media training for faculty and staff.
Content planning & metrics
• Work closely with the Associate Director of Institutional Communications to plan content related to campaigns or initiatives.
• Assist in compiling communications metrics to determine strategic messaging & content decision making.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, or a related field.
• One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in public relations, journalism, social media communications, newspaper reporting, radio/television broadcasting with emphasis on production, or web/digital media.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience editing in AP Style.
• Diverse writing experience (examples: journalistic, speechwriting, science writing, marketing writing, etc.)
• An extensive and thorough knowledge of the Urbana-Champaign campus academic and administrative structure, and broad, general knowledge of higher education.
• Experience working in media or media relations
Successful candidates will have:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
• Professionalism and ability to interact with senior administrative and academic officials

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5006 - Public Information Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience.

At least five years of professional experience in journalism.

Experience teaching and developing courses at the university level.

Ability to teach electives in sports, community, long form or science and technology reporting.

Familiarity and ability to teach data journalism, or integrate it into other courses, is considered a plus.

Appointment Information

This is a full-time, renewable non-tenure track faculty position appointed on a 9-month service basis (fall and spring semesters). The expected start date is August 16, 2023. Salary is commensurate with experience. Opportunities for summer salary also may be available. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
