Harvard Book Store Warehouse – Needham, MA...
Harvard Square’s landmark independent book store, Harvard Book store is looking for a Warehouse Assistant at our Needham, MA location. Our warehouse primarily specializes in selling remaindered, discounted books.
The successful candidate will be able to work effectively as part of a team, but is also comfortable working on detail-oriented tasks alone. This position requires active communication, consistency, and some flexibility. An interest in books is helpful. An average day includes a significant amount of time working on solo tasks, but strong communication skills are needed for coordination with other company staff and departments.
Hours and Location:
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week job. Shift hours will be Monday-Friday and fall between the hours of 9:00AM and 6:00PM. Some overtime or weekend work may be requested. Work will be done out of our Needham warehouse, with some delivery trips to other Harvard Book Store locations required.
Responsibilities:
• Timely and accurate processing of incoming deliveries of remaindered books and other products during delivery hours.
• Shipping online Shopify orders and communicating with customers
• Safely loading and unloading shipments in and out of warehouse and store
• Processing returns to publishers and other suppliers
• Entering data for online sales into our software system
• Maintaining a safe, orderly, and clean warehouse work environment
• Maintaining and displaying remainder book inventory in the store
• Making deliveries to the store in Cambridge, MA and other locations by driving our van.
• Consistent, timely, and accurate communication with other staff about inventory and remainder orders
• Consistent, timely, and accurate processing and routing of paperwork and inventory data.
• Preparing and shipping subscription club orders
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Ability to lift boxes up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stand for an extended period of time
• A valid driver's license
• Proficiency or comfort learning Google Workspace
• Proficiency or comfort learning Slack
• Knowledge of Shopify, iMerchant, and Pirate Ship are pluses, but not requirements
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting wage is $16.00 per hour (weekend pay is 1.25 times that rate). This position is unionized as part of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), Local 1596. Benefits include medical, vision, and dental insurance, paid vacation days, paid holidays, sick days, 401K, and staff discounts.
