What you can expect as a Firearms Specialist:

The ideal Firearms Specialist will have vast firearms knowledge and extensive gun handling experience. Familiarity with long guns and pistols is critical. This experience may be from prior retail, recreational hunting or the collecting of firearms. The Firearms Specialist is responsible for all aspects of managing the gun department, including driving profitability through buying, selling and loaning on firearms. The Firearms Specialist completes all 4473 forms (when present), is responsible for all aspects of compliance with ATF guidelines and ensures the stores FFL status stays in good standing. Other Firearms Specialist duties include, but are not limited to:
• Evaluating the value of firearms presented as collateral
• General management of the stores firearms and firearm accessories, including merchandising, pricing, inventory controls and evaluation

This includes three phases of business: buying, selling, and firearms customer service.

This position initiates all 4473 forms with customers and is responsible for conducting the final check of applicable company, state, and federal forms prior to a firearm being transferred to the customer.

The Team Lead focuses on creating a fair-trade environment focusing on a customer-satisfaction selling culture. Thus, reaching monthly sales goals in order to achieve maximum profit through buying, selling, and trading pre-owned firearms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Evaluates and appraises used firearms exhibiting knowledge of fair market values, professional negotiation skills, research, and a high degree of firearms identification knowledge. The Team Leader is in control of used firearm inventory and must obtain the highest % margin based on negotiated acquisition.
• Initiates all 4473 forms with customers and is responsible for conducting the final check of applicable company, state, and federal forms prior to a firearm being transferred to the customer.
• Maintains inventory through daily buying and cultivating leads for potential buying of gun collections outside of the store, along with awareness of local auctions, estate sales, and any other avenue of supply.
• Complies with all Local, State, and Federal firearms regulations as an employee of an ATF FFL licensed dealer.
• Conducts monthly ATF compliance audits and company required audits.
• Merchandises used firearms and is proactive in the arrangement of merchandise.
• Partners with Internet Specialist recommending to post those firearms that will achieve the highest potential margin and sell quickly.
• Interacts and communicates with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team.
• Train and educate Outfitters on acquiring and disposing of used firearms, current sales trends, policy and procedure updates and changes, negotiation skills, providing resources to properly identify used firearm values, and other educational aspects of the used firearm business. 5%
• Participate in ongoing training including, but not limited to firearms and shooting product information, diverse shooting discipline awareness, systems training, compliance related training, and selling skills / techniques.
• Provide highest quality customer service on the sales floor and assisting with customer phone calls, when developing relationships with customers in answering questions about their firearm, quoting a price for their firearm or a retail price of firearms and when responding and handling customer issues by using good judgment and logic in solving problems and making decisions within the job scope.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or equivalent experience
• Experience: 2-4 years experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
• Must be 21 years of age
• Safely handle firearms
• Knowledge of purchasing firearms by either working in the firearms industry or collecting firearms
• Good understanding of retail and a knowledge of computers
• Background in current firearms models
• Able to appraise and know the marketable value of used firearms
• Must have a great work ethic and ability to multi task

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
• Local travel to purchase used firearms out of store

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Constantly stand and/or walk during shift
• Constantly communicate with others to exchange information
• Constantly repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
• Constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned
• Light work that includes constantly lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds, occasionally move and lift objects up to 100 pounds or more (utilizing a team lift as needed)
• Occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs, step stools, etc.
• Occasionally operate machinery and/or power tools
• Occasionally work in noisy environments

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
• Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices. ​

• Team Members who handle or sell firearms must be 18 years of age or older, be able to possess a firearm under the Gun Control Act 18 USC 922(g), pass a background check, be trained on firearms sales and safety, and must comply with all applicable state, federal, and local laws and regulations with respect to the sale, storage, and safe handling of firearms.
• 1-2 years of previous firearm sales or related experience is preferred.
