COMPANY PROFILE:

UpBeat Music & Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded in 2013 to help youth reach their fullest potential through music and art. Upbeat believes economics should not be an obstacle to learning music and art, and the organization offers scholarships to those in need. Their teachers are a passionate group who make a difference in the lives of each and every student - they are not only outstanding musicians, but truly relate to young people. Their students learn life lessons such as accountability, discipline, respect, kindness, and humility through fun and interactive lessons. Individual and peer-based small group learning environments help to facilitate social and emotional growth, while students learn the fundamentals of music performance and theory, gaining confidence and self-esteem along the way. Upbeat currently employs 12 teachers and is excited to expand their team due to increased student demand.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The new teacher will focus primarily on guitar instruction. If the new teacher is interested in giving voice and piano lessons, as well, a small student base can be provided in those areas.

The new instructor will work with a small team and gain valuable insight into teaching and mentoring. The instructor will work with children ages 5 to 17 and 95% of lessons are in-person, with 5% being virtual for specific circumstances.

Overall duties include:
• teaching individual guitar lessons
• teaching theory, technique, performance, and composition in individual and group settings
• utilizing exercises and games to help motivate students to learn ideas and techniques
• conducting ongoing assessments of student achievements through formal and informal testing
• planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies
• co-teaching a guitar-based music curriculum
• participating in planning meetings
• assisting to create, organize, and manage games, recreation, and team-building exercises
• contributing towards organizing activities, curriculum design, and student/parent feedback
• helping to coordinate and support program activities
• helping to apply and enforce student discipline when necessary

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented musician to make a difference in the lives of youth through music and arts. While teaching experience is preferred, Upbeat places more value on passion and the ability to effectively interact with children, and is happy to provide the necessary training for those without teaching experience.

REQUIREMENTS:
• proficiency in guitar performance and music theory
• strong interpersonal and communication skills
• a passion for working with children
• previous work experience in music education or summer camp preferred
