Gizmodo is looking for an experienced Deputy Editor to help run its digital newsroom, manage the site's news and feature coverage, and oversee special projects. The Deputy Editor will report directly to the Editor In Chief, and work closely with the editors of Gizmodo's various channels. The Deputy Editor will help manage reporters and plan career development; assign and edit news stories on a range of topics; oversee long-term investigations; and conceive and execute special reports and editorial events. The ideal candidate for this position is a technology, science or business journalist with experience running a small-to-medium-sized editorial team. They excel at managing multiple long-term projects while still handling short-term demands on their time (like editing a breaking news story). They have an expert eye for what's important news and what's just hype; they love working with reporters and helping them grow; and they thrive in the fast paced environment of news on the web. Candidates get bonus points if they have a strong head for data and experience producing lists and rankings; a history of working on in-person events; or significant expertise as an author or pundit covering an area of emerging tech. A wicked sense of humor is also a must. Essential Requirements:
At least 10 years of experience reporting and editing technology, science or business journalism at a major print or digital publication. Experience running a small-to-medium-sized newsroom or editorial team. A strong understanding of the major companies and issues in the worlds of tech and science. Experience identifying breaking news stories and planning smart features. Sharp editing skills and a strong sense of voice and style. Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and best reporting practices. A willingness to work from Gizmodo's newsroom in NYC or LA. To apply, please submit a resume and a cover letter explaining why you're the right fit for the job.
